Subj : Kitchens To : Dave Drum From : Ruth Haffly Date : Sat Aug 30 2025 14:31:04 Hi Dave, RH> We've got Baptist churchs all over the area, just have to do some RH> asking about the specific worship style, location (don't want to go too RH> far from WF) and other factors. DD> One God - a gazillion different versions. RH> I'll not get into a discussion there but you know our point of view. DD> And you, no doubt, know mine. Bv)= Enough said. DD> Post 32 is located across from the main gate of the state fairgroound. DD> And the have a large (several acres) lot to the west of the post. They DD> park cars there during fiar time and clean up monetarily. My Vintage RH> Our Legion and VFW posts park for various events (town movie night, 6 RH> Sundays in Spring concert series, etc). VFW also runs a chuck wagon at RH> a number of large community events--Meet in the Street, Friday Night on RH> White (Street, concert series in the summer) and so on. Both groups do RH> quite well. DD> That's why dues are low. Bv)= RH> Yes, we found out we get back a very small portion of the dues after RH> state and national dues are taken out. There was a time when our RH> auxiliary group had a piggy bank out at every meeting to collect pocket RH> change. We're well beyond that now but still do other fund raising RH> about once a year. DD> I dunno anything at all about the fiscal details of the local Legion DD> post(s). I know about the Auxiliary, could (but won't) ask Steve about the Legion and VFW. All of the above, plus the Marine Corps League, are very active in the community, and the community is very supportive of them. DD> 8<----- AGAIN ----->8 DD> Since HEB is privately owned and a Texas (mostly) company there is DD> lillte chance that their seasoning would cross-pollinate with another DD> label. RH> Probably not. When we were stationed in TX in the mid 80s, I did most RH> of my grocery shopping at the commissary as it was usually the best buy RH> for us. Once in a while we went to other stores, forget what they were, RH> but do know I was in HEB occaisionally during our time in the state. DD> Sorta like me with Ralph's when I lived in Califunky. They were the DD> 800 lb gorilla of the grocery business. Except I had a Smart & Final DD> outlet store across the street from where I hung my hat. Much better DD> pricing if not the latest fads & frills. I've forgotten what the grocery store nearest us in Pacific Grove was. Do remember produce stands where I could fill to overflowing a standard grocery bag and carry a 5 lb sack of potatoes on the side for under $10. when Steve was going to language school in Montery. Sure helped stretch a PFC's pay! We could also get 15 cent ice cream cones at Thrifty Drug Store and a carousel ride at the Oscar Hossenfelder Cannery building was 50 cents. DD> My favourite on-line game and one of my favourite snax -- DD> Title: Scrabble (Party Mix) DD> Categories: Cereal, Nuts, Snacks DD> Yield: 1 1/2 quarts RH> I'd sub out onion and garlic powders for the salt, maybe cashews for RH> the pecans, but otherwise it looks like something that wouldn't last RH> long around here. (G) DD> Doesn'tlive long around here either. If I do Chex Mix, I have to do it with just the wheat and rice chex cereals so Steve won't have to pick out the corn chex. I've made it a few times (before we knew of the corn allergy) but since the girls have left home, I don't think I've done it at all. We've found other munchies but don't eat too many of them either. --- Catch you later, Ruth rchaffly{at}earthlink{dot}net FIDO 1:396/45.28 ....
