Typically, I'm done with whatever project goal I've set for the day (I'm retired now and only work part-time...so *I* get to set the pace of work and the minimum accomplishment for the day's labor), and usually by this time I've cleaned up, had a cool drink and am out on the InterNet looking for interesting news items and columns to read, post up in Fido, and comment on. Here's something I ran across just now that is a huge illustration of what I was saying this morning in my reply to this `Austerity Failed' article posted by the `illustrious' moderator of this echo. According to an article by Mathew Boyle...the union representing the `adjudications officers' and staff, have come out in opposition to the so- called `gang of eight' new immigration reform bill (which, by the way is NOT in any way an *immigration reform* bill at all, but nothing more than a `business as usual illegal immigration with amnesty under-the-table' bill. It just moves the goal posts a little closer to the `illegal immigrant's' side of the board, but THAT'S a matter for another time). But forget the aim of the article. THAT isn't what I'm `following up' on... what's IN the article is something that caught my eye and hit the nail on the head in what I was saying this morning: IN the article, entitled *Union For Immigration Processing Officers Join Opposition To Reform Bill*, it is mentioned that there are (get ready folks) 12,000 adjudications officers and staff! Get that? 12friggin' thousand FEDERAL employees that do ONE job! Now....just for the heck of it...lets do a little math here: 12,000 federal employees (and staff).....okay....lets say each employee is getting a high-five to mid-six-figure salary. Lets use ...oh...say...$65,000 for the low-end (that does NOT include `perks and benefits PLUS bonus's'), but we'll just stick to the salary part of the pay package. And the high-end salary (supervisors and administrators) ....say..oh lets just take the figure $150,000. Some get much, much more....but lets stick to manageable numbers for the sake of illustration, shall we? Now....lets take the median salary of those two figures, $107,500....and use that as our calculating figure. Ok...multiply $107,000 by 12,000, and I come up with 1 BILLION 290 MILLION dollars...and THATS just for the salaries of people who sit at a desk all day doing `adjudications' on the wild-ass tales illegal aliens lay on them to get to stay in this country legally! And guess what, folks? We ain't even gettin' our money's worth, because this son-of-a-bitch in the White House (YES Lee! I called `my president, your president, everybody's president' a son-of-a-bitch!) has passed the word to `scale back' (to be polite) on the enforcement side of our already-in-place immigration laws! There's one BILLION 290 MILLION of OUR dollars that aren't even doing what they're supposed to be doing: paying people to enforce existing immigration law, weeding out the scammers and the false-documented and sending them back to wherever the hell they came from! Talk about a perfect target for *austerity*? There's 1 billion 290 million dollars we could save by cutting the entire bunch off and sending them home. It would kick $1,290,000,000 loose that could be applied to the debt, or the deficit, and they aren't doing what we pay them for anyway! How many other useless sub-offices of departments and bureaus are there that equal or higher savings could be realized from? Who knows! --- *Durango b301 #PE* * Origin: Fidonet Since 1991 Join Us: www.DocsPlace.org (1:123/140) .
