Subj : Taps To : BOB KLAHN From : Lee Lofaso Date : Sat Nov 23 2013 23:03:03 Hello Bob, LL>> Twice a year, at 12 o'clock noon, I take out my trumpet, LL>> step outside, and play "Taps" for all to hear. Memorial LL>> Day and Veterans Day. But how many folks have heard the LL>> original rendition of "Taps" - as it was meant to be LL>> played? Well, here is your chance - LL>> http://www.flixxy.com/trumpet-solo-melissa-venema.htm BK>This it not actually taps. It's an Italian pop music piece, BK>composed in 1965. I am sure it is derived from Taps, but it's BK>not the same. "Taps" is derived from "Last Post" by Daniel Butterfield, which was composed in 1801. "Taps" is the shortened version, 24 notes, composed in 1862. "Il Silenzio" is a modern adaptation of "Last Post" - with obvious references to "Taps". The three songs are not one and the same, but have a most definite resemblance. :) --Lee --- MesNews/1.06.00.00-gb * Origin: news://felten.yi.org (2:203/2) .
