   So, why use generic (daynumber as extension) at all, then?

   Using e.g.<password>.UPB as segment name for all "downlinks", all you have 
to do is "copy *.UPD" to the working directory and then "del *.UPD", and you 
know you'll always have only the latest segment files in the working directory.

   I've been doing that for years first as NC then as RC and it's never ever 
failed.
