  I got my first one when I had my first "real" job, passing papers.  I
started working at 13 mowing lawns but that was all cash, under the
table, going door-to-door.
  The military used to have their own ID numbers (serial numbers) but I
understand that was replaced with one's SSN a few years ago.  Makes
sense, fewer numbers to remember.

  As I wrote Daryl my newest one does have those letters and numbers.
