One of a number of things I noticed on my trip. My last cross country trip was in the mid 1970s. Then you had mom-and-pop diners along the road. Those are nearly all gone now. I recall seeing only two (ate at one) on my trip. Now they are all the same FF joints. Of course gas stations with a max of four pumps are gone, replaced by many pumps with options, convenience stores, etc. I was in a truck stop somewhere in PA (can't recall off hand where, near NJ) for gas that was more of a mini-mall than a truck stop. And inside instead of hearty truck driver food were national burgers and subs. > Now, in competition, you wonder "Why should I work so hard? I'll get a trophy, anyway". :P I still haven't gotten my trophy from the times I was called into work with only minutes notice to fill in for someone who didn't show up.
