I had a brother in law like that... I tried to keep my eye-rolling to a
minimum.... or at least not too awfully obvious....  <G>

If you have the younger ones available, it is indeed a good idea to
encourage them to be a part of the leadership... someone will have to
take over when the greybeards are gone....
