  One time in the mid '70s I was in DC for a wedding. 
  It was late at night and I missed my exit so I drove on to the next one. 
I was intending to just turn around and back on the beltway.
  But, this exit went directly to another road that was four lane with a
wide tree lined median and no way to turn.  There was fencing between the
trees.
  I kept going thinking there had to be somewhere to turn and finally came
to the end of the road, that was at the entrance to the CIA HQ!  I just made
a turn around, waving at the armed Marine guard and went back to the
beltway.
