Subj : Finding Deleted Files To : Joe Mackey From : Ed Vance Date : Thu Jan 09 2020 06:44:00 Howdy! Joe, I was thinking the other day about Your message about the missing Notes files and wondered if You tried any Undelete programs to learn if they could be found and make them "Readable" again. I know those files have been missing for a long time so they might not be in the computer's Recycle Bin. I use a program called Recuva from www.piriform.com/recuva to find files that I didn't mean to Delete and Undelete them. Recuva has to be ran from the Administrator Account. Another 'trick' I use to locate missing files on this XP pc is to go to a CMD Prompt by clicking: Start - Programs - Accessories - Command Prompt OR Start - Programs - Accessories _ hold the Mouse Pointer over Command Prompt then Right Click and select Runas. (Select the Administrative Account to find every file on the pc) Then typing: cd\ (to go to the Root Directory) dir/s/-p (to make a list of all of the files on the computer) (it will take a L-O-N-G T-I-M-E to finish) (be patient) After that is finished type the same line but add Redirection to store the Results in a Text File: dir/s/-p >> c:\Some SubDirectory Name\filename.txt ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ (Type in where You want the file to go to so that it cam be (Opened in Notepad later) (preferrably NOT in the ROOT Directory) (This won't take as long of a time as the first line did) Then type: exit (to return to the Windows GUI) Open Notepad and then click File - Open - (the location the new file is at) In Notepad click: Edit - Find (enter the FileName of one of a file You are wanting to find) Hopefully You can find some of the Long Lost Files either in the Recycle Bin, or with Recuva or the Full Directory Listing. I hope I'm not telling You about things You already know, I sure don't want to hurt Your feelings by acting like I'm a MKIA (Mister Know-It-All). You already know I ain't MKIA (I just act that way).
