  The one I remember Hermione Gingold in was Mayor Shinn's Wife in 
"The Music Man" (the movie), with:

Robert Preston (Professor Harold Hill, who didn't know one note of 
music from another, but he knew the Minuet in G).

Shirley Jones (Marian The Librarian)

Buddy Hackett (Marcellus Washburn)

The Buffalo Bills (barbershop quartet, the members of the school board)

Ronny Howard (the same one that was on Happy Days years later)

  And, so many others. The opening scene "Rock Island" was what you'd
call "musical rap"...but that was made 60 years ago, and it's still a
classic.

  I understand that during the filming, Herminone Gingold said of
her dressing room "this is just like a whorehouse". <G> Or when
her husband, wife of Mayor Shinn (I forget the name of the guy who
played him), said "Not one more poop out of you, madam!!", and she
says to the others "I think he means peep". <G>
