Of course being 6'1" and anywhere from 165-210 (my weight varied a lot {pretty steady from 180-190 now}) may have been part of that. And when I had a car I often picked up hitch hikers as well. Provided they looked decent (not standing along the road in bloody clothes holding an axe). Never had a problem picking anyone up. One time several years ago I was putt-putting along the sidewalk on campus in my golf cart and a young woman who worked in the office was returning from lunch. I rode up and asked "Hey there cutie, want a ride? I have candy?"
