Alan might tell you "oh yeah they can!" but you certainly cannot.  If you
do so, you are there illegally and, if they find you, you may find that
your right to enter legally in the future no longer exists.

Unlike the US, where Canadian Alan expects us to grin and bear it, the
Canadians don't play around.
