I don't particularly care for long ANSIs either, but the days of 2400 baud modems are long gone.  These days, with broadband internet and telnet connections, they scroll by fairly quickly, so I don't really see it as a big issue these days.  Some sysops do still have dialup phone lines, but with modern software, I think there would be ways to have a BBS not displays such a big ANSI to a dialup user.
