MP>> The recent rainfall was so heavy, that the township had MP>> to evaporate the city south of the railroad tracks. MP>Talk about the "wrong side of the tracks!" I hope not to be with my new ham radio callsign, expected to take effect on March 26. After doing weather related traffic on ham radio for 28 years, it got to be too much work, it took too much time on the nets, and I got burned out. It is my fourth (and FINAL one)...in 28 years of being an anateur radio operator...averaging 7 years for each one. I never thought I'd change the call, but with being the Conductor (Net Control) for the D-Star Trains And Railroads Net, I felt it was appropriate. The new callsign will stress "railroad crossing safety"...especially as it relates to the sounding of the train horn, even in a "quiet zone". I am working to get permission from a fellow ham radio operator to use one of his photos of a SOO Line steam engine, leading a passenger train, in the snow, at a grade crossing, for the new QSL Card. So, instead of WX1DER, which was "We analyze data, forecasts and text, but wonder what weather will happen next"...it will be WX4QZ -- "Whistled Crossings For Quiet Zones". The train has got to warn all the vehicles, trespassers, and MOW workers in its path to get out of the way!! As of now, I'm the only one who has applied for it, and by FCC Rules, the call is granted on "who applies for it first". I also will change my signature line to "Wonder Whether You Can Beat The Train To The Railroad Crossing?? You could be DEAD WRONG, as YOU LOSE, if it's a tie!!".
