BM>When I was living at the apartment complex years ago we did have a few BM>broiler and oven fires. One was someone stuck something in the broiler BM>and sat down and dozed off. Not sure of the food caught fire but did BM>start smoking pretty good. Another incident in a different building was BM>similar: food had either caught fire or simply started smoking. The one BM>was more serious as due to the amount of smoke the fire department was BM>called. I odn't thnik they were needed to put out the fire but the did BM>stick a few fans in the hall to clear the smoke. DS> You have to be so careful, as once some of these fires start, DS> they spread quickly. The perfect example is a dried out Christmas DS> tree. An electrical fire can engulf the tree in less than 10 DS> seconds. Right, though one cannot live in fear. I suppose 'calculated risk' might be better. A live tree (even an artificial one) can catch fire, so it would be wise to make sure the potential problem of the wiring failing be checked. Keep hot bulbs away from flammables, make sure the insulation on the wires is in good condition. Don't overload. I was visiting my Mother last year and the spare bedroom was at a comfortable temperature but better with a fan; she brought one and an orange extension cord. The gauge of the wire in the extension cord was way over what was needed for the fan but 'better safe than sorry'; if she needed to plug in a space heater better she automatically grabs the orange cord as the heater should not be run on a zip cord extension. BM>... What lies at the bottom of the ocean and twitches? A nervous wreck. DS> I can hear the late Paul Lynde telling that tagline. Oh-oh: Daryl's hearing those voices in his head again!! ¯ ® ¯ Barry_Martin_3@ ® ¯ @Q.COM ® ¯ ® .... Hear about the high-tech ventriloquist? He can throw his voice mail. --- MultiMail/Win32 v0.47 þ wcECHO 4.2 ÷ ILink: The Safe BBS þ Bettendorf, IA --- QScan/PCB v1.20a / 01-0462 * Origin: ILink: CFBBS | cfbbs.dtdns.net | 856-933-7096 (454:1/1) .
