ARE WE OVERDUE FOR AN 'S-CLASS' SUPERFLARE? Researchers are discussing a new
category of solar flare -- the "S-flare" -- much stronger than a typical
X-flare. A new paper in the JGR suggests that a high-risk window for S-flares
will open in early 2027.
