Subj : Various Things (2) To : Daryl Stout From : Barry Martin Date : Fri Feb 17 2023 07:34:00 Hi Daryl! BM> Might be more convenient. ...As for the separate shipment of ink, BM> could have been your store was out. DS> It would've cost more if I had it shipped the same day...so, I DS> ordered it on a Friday, and they didn't deliver it until the DS> following Wednesday. A few years ago I ordered something noon/afternoon and got it the next morning! And no, did not pay for overnight shipping -- something I have never done except with a legal document. DS> That's like the routine with the two seagull, Gertrude and DS> Heathcliff (Red Skelton knows them well ). They were wondering DS> where this carrier pigeon was, as he was late to show up. Well, DS> the pigeon showed up, and he doesn't have a feather on him (gives DS> a whole new meaning to being "naked as a jaybird" ). DS> Well, he's walking people toed ...and the seagulls ask "What DS> happened to you??". He said "It was the worst day of my life. I DS> was flying too low over Beverly Hills, and got caught in the DS> damnedest badmintion game you ever saw!!" . Poor guy! BM> Last Thursday we had rain-to-rain/snow-to-snow in the morning. Good BM> news is wasn't icy, though the slush didn't exactly give traction. BM> Decided not to shovel, figuring the crunchy snow was easier to walk on BM> that a smooth potentially icy driveway and sidewalk. Ended up most of BM> the walking/driving surfaces were essentially self-cleared by late BM> afternoon and the expected layer of ice for Friday morning didn't BM> occur. DS> We'll have a few mornings below freezing here, but it looks DS> like winter is behind us, as we get into tornado season. LIS in the other message ("#1" in another conference) we had 3-4" of snow yesterday with the temperaure staying just under freezing. This morning was 8ø when I woke up and the wind chill was around 0ø. Not supposed to warm up too much, though the weekend (as I write this tomorrow will be Saturday) and beginning of next week highs predicted in the 40's. BM> That call for help shot should have been aimed! DS> I thought I had the sights set right. Should had left them! BM> Here at the house the problem was the birds and squirrels getting too BM> friendly with the pole transformer in the back yard: peck-peck-BOOM! BM> Not a constant thing but enough it made sense to have more than a BM> bedside flashlight. The 'joke' was I was going to put the telephone BM> number to report a power outage on speed dial. (I did post the number BM> in larger print by a couple of telephones.) DS> When one of those "fuses" on the line gets tripped, the lights DS> get real bright for a half second, as there is a huge boom, then DS> the lights go out. Probably: I don't recall. Been a while since the power failed and had the lights on. Plus have a whole house surge suppressor so that should reduce the surge, therefore the bright flair. BM> So those burgers are KING sized?! DS> Super Sized. Years ago, they were criticizing all the DS> restaurants for promoting obsesity...but it's their choice if DS> they want to devour six of the cheeseburgers in one shot!! Gee, I thought the sliders were larger than nornal! BM> Running low on scratch paper are we? (Here we get a bit frugal and use BM> the blank back of junk mail letters for note paper. [Full page would BM> get cut into six's: three pieces from the 1/3 fold and then those in BM> half].) DS> Never thought of it that way. I haven't printed that much DS> lately. It's not the printer that costs, it's the ink cartridges. DS> And, some are made to ONLY ACCEPT the name brand replacement ink DS> cartridge...otherwise, the printer shuts down. Both Canon and DS> Hewlitt Packard do that. My old Brother ink jet printer sometimes was alittle fussy that way: I was buying cartridges from Cartridge World and usually worked fine without any fiddling. Every so often had to do some playing around, and rarely a dud. Now have a Lexmark laser printer -- colour! duplex! Toner cartridges are a bit of a *gasp!* but are actually cheaper. I've never had a toner cartridge dry up (it's already dry!). Plus laser print doesn't smear if gets wet like inkjet printing does. BTW, if an inkjet cartridge goes 'wee-wee' hand sanitizer is pretty good for removal. ¯ BarryMartin3@ ® ¯ @MyMetronet.NET ® .... If upset wife she nags. Upset more:silent treatment.
