Subj : Various Things (2) To : Daryl Stout From : Barry Martin Date : Mon Feb 20 2023 07:41:00 Hi Daryl! BM> A few years ago I ordered something noon/afternoon and got it the next BM> morning! And no, did not pay for overnight shipping -- something I BM> have never done except with a legal document. DS> That's very unusual. Yes: I was surprised to get it that fast is an understatement. DS> Normally, Kroger will deliver stuff the DS> next day. At least with ordering groceries, they tell you when DS> your driver is on the way...as you pick the time slot, usually a DS> 2 hour window. With other stuff, it's "any time before 7pm". Be DS> my luck, nature calls, and I'll be "occupied" when they arrive. I hate those huge windows -- a two or three hour window isn't too bad. Even then usually your bladder or bowel wants a lot of attention! DS> There was another one with Gertrude and Heathcliff, who were DS> flying over Washington, DC. One said "Look!! The Capitol!!", and DS> the other (grinning wryly) said "This One's On The House!!" Punny! BM> LIS in the other message ("#1" in another conference) we had 3-4" of BM> snow yesterday with the temperaure staying just under freezing. This BM> morning was 8ø when I woke up and the wind chill was around 0ø. Not BM> supposed to warm up too much, though the weekend (as I write this BM> tomorrow will be Saturday) and beginning of next week highs predicted BM> in the 40's. DS> We have 2 threats of severe weather this week...Wednesday and DS> Saturday. So, that means more BBS downtime. The problem up here might be the storm (possibly ice storm as I mentioned in the first part) might not be taken seriously. Here in the Quad Cities we got 2-3" in the metro area; they were predicting up to 6". (West and north get their predicted amount of almost a foot.) The storm here also was 'lazy': they were closing schools and businesses and it was barely snowing. By the closing times I think there was 2« to 3". ....Suppose better dafe than sorry. ...Know a few school kids were all excited about having a Snow Day but wasn't enough snow in the morning to go sledding. DS> I thought I had the sights set right. BM> Should had left them! DS> No wonder I haven't handled weaponry in 45 years, since that DS> hunter safety course I took after moving to Arkansas with the DS> family. Mine's closer to 50 in New Hampshire. BM> Probably: I don't recall. Been a while since the power failed and had BM> the lights on. Plus have a whole house surge suppressor so that should BM> reduce the surge, therefore the bright flair. DS> I have surge protection, but when it comes to lightning, it's DS> no contest. True. I'll admit to thinking you're overly-cautious and you probably thinking I'm throwing caution to the wind. Should there be a Huge Lightening Storm in the nearby area I would do some unplugging. Some lights would be kept on (expendable) so wandering-around safety. Would probably also keep one TV on to monitor weather reports. Would be one I wouldn't mind replacing! BM> Gee, I thought the sliders were larger than nornal! DS> I like buying packs of the King's Hawaiian Dinner DS> Rolls...putting some butter on them, then zapping them in the DS> microwave for 30 seconds. Nothing like hot, fresh, buttered DS> bread. :) Those are good that way!! BM> My old Brother ink jet printer sometimes was a little fussy that way: I BM> was buying cartridges from Cartridge World and usually worked fine BM> without any fiddling. Every so often had to do some playing around, BM> and rarely a dud. DS> The name brand ones work fine, but you can't use the generic DS> refills. They have made it where the printer (both Canon and HP) DS> won't recognize anything but the name brand cartridge. When I bought my laser printer I also decided to go with the OEM cartridges. Probably more expensive than refilled but I had had enough 'issues' with the refilled inkjet cartridges to solidify the decision. (I don't think problems were 100% the fault of the refills.) BM> Now have a Lexmark laser printer -- colour! duplex! Toner cartridges BM> are a bit of a *gasp!* but are actually cheaper. I've never had a BM> toner cartridge dry up (it's already dry!). Plus laser print doesn't BM> smear if gets wet like inkjet printing does. DS> I've had both Canon and Lexmark printers over the years. But DS> again, it's the cost of the ink cartridges that's a bear. I've read where some people have just purchased a new printer when they run out of ink. BM> BTW, if an inkjet cartridge goes 'wee-wee' hand sanitizer is pretty BM> good for removal. DS> Better have SHOUT if you get it on your clothes. I'd shout getting my clothes stained! Here noticed there was a dark blob on the shelf under the printer. ¯ BarryMartin3@ ® ¯ @MyMetronet.NET ® ....
