Subj : Browser Scareware To : Daryl Stout From : Barry Martin Date : Thu Dec 01 2022 07:07:00 Hi Daryl! DS> Recently, I had some "scareware" get into Google Chrome, which DS> locked up the browser. DS> Suspecting that it was a ruse (it was), I did NOT call the DS> number noted. Smart Move #1! DS> I also run the IObit Malware Fighter, which has "quadruple DS> protection" in a real time monitoring mode, its own DS> anti-malware/anti-spyware engine, the BitDefender anti-malware DS> engine, and an anti-ransomware engine, with doing automatic daily DS> updates. I also have AdBlock Plus, and the IOBit Ad Blocker DS> utilities installed in Google Chrome. I'm not so sure AdBlock Plus is all that good: when I first started using it a few years back it did a good job and then as time continued it seemed ot be allowing through more ads. Read where it now has a list of 'approved' (read: 'paid') ad it will let through. A few months ago I switch to uBlock and things have quited down again. DS> How I got it could've been with a link somewhere, or someone DS> tried to get that into my system through my BBS, even though only DS> select ports are open. The spammers are persistent! They could have created a delay payload: load it months ago and let it sit idle until now. ¯ BarryMartin3@ ® ¯ @MyMetronet.NET ® ....
