Subj : Browser Scareware To : Daryl Stout From : Barry Martin Date : Sun Dec 18 2022 08:07:00 Hi Daryl! BM> I haven't had a lancet prick in ages -- had to do it occasionally in BM> class. First the stabbing into one of the most senstive areas on the BM> body, then that darn flap of skin. DS> I remember in high school biology class 45 years ago, where we DS> did a test to determine blood types. The girl at my table had to DS> have me prick her finger...wuss. I've had to do that at times DS> myself, although thankfully, I've never been classed as diabetic. DS> My A1C has never been below 5.4 or above 6.1 -- and it has held DS> steady around 6.0 -- so, I'm classed as "pre-type 2". I did that DS> for my late wife, as she was a type 1 diabetic. As long as it stays good you're fine! My bilirubin results just into the high side by a decimal point or two. Have been for consistent for decades. (Hey: someone has to be on the norms up! ) BM> (Or more accurately the doctor advising you of the dosage increase!) DS> That came from showing me the bill. Sort of a mixed metaphor: never look at a doctor's bill on an empty stomach. BM> Guess now you'll have to be extra-careful of eating and your medication BM> schedule. You're more delicate than they thought! DS> At least I'm not petite I initially read as "polite"!! DS> ...or I'm the bearded lady with a deep DS> voice...but, that only happened when I was doing the girls part DS> at a square dance. But where did you find those high-heeled sequined cowgirl boots in your size?! BM> Could be! I haven't been following as the only device I know of BM> running Microsoft around here is this Virtual Machine. Everything else BM> is Ubuntu or Raspbian/Raspberry OS (so Linux). ...Well, not sure what BM> the televisions, etc,, are using. Did see a headline Linux is getting BM> more and more attacked -- like that is coming as a big surprise! DS> I don't know much about a raspberry pi, but a pineapple upside DS> down cheesecake sounds awfully good (we'll now pause 3 minutes DS> for drooling) . Those darn Raspberry Pi's have become real expensive due problems in the semiconductor market. Good news is just read a 100,000 (not sure of the number) will be available soon. Hopefully the ones I ordered over a year ago at normal price will be shipped. (Good news: my credit card hasn't been charged. Bad news: makes statement reconsiliation a hare more complicated.) BM> Bottoms up! ...Possibly literally: that stuff can be strong! DS> That's for the gypsies who have their rumps out, so there's a DS> place to park their bicycles. Oh now THAT makes an interesting mental image!! BM> She's everywhere! She's everywhere!! ...There was a couple-minute BM> segment on the radio years back and that was the tag - well, "he's". BM> Can't recall the details but I think was "Super Chicken" -- bumbling BM> super-hero dressed as a giant chicken. Lots of puns, some double- BM> entendres. DS> Loved that old cartoon...you can find the theme on YouTube. DS> There was another similar cartoon called "Tom Slick". I recall DS> Saturday mornings over 50 years ago, when we got up early just to DS> watch cartoons...but most of those aren't around anymore, because DS> "they're not politically correct, and too violent". There's a few "comment cartoon panels" (not sure what they're called) with pictures like Wile E. Cayote blowing up something, Elmer Fudd and his rifle and the comment underneath along the lines of "I remember watching these cartoons and I haven't blown anything up/killed anyone". I don't think we knew better back then, possibly more how reacted. DS> Pardon me while I go barf. :P Go back and rinse your mouth! DS> I got my new Medicare Health Plan card and materials yesterday, DS> but they don't take effect until Jan. 1. I'll be with United DS> Health Care, and one of the benefits includes specialist visit DS> co-pays down to $15 from $40...still no co-pay to the PCP. They DS> also will provide transportation to and from the doctors DS> appointments. Those will help! ...Wondering how the "provide transportation" part will be working: could be either a pre-paid type of service or post-paid where you pay, submit the bill, and then get reimbursed. BM> Well you now have tic'd the lack of transportation box! DS> They'll probably say "homebound means you never go out". Then, DS> I'll say to them the Words that Jesus said in condemning the DS> Scribes and Pharisees: "Woe to you who devour the fortunes of DS> widows...for you shall receive the greater damnation in DS> Hell"...and then I'd add "He also said 'Vengeance is Mine, I will DS> repay'". I have the satisfaction in that "One day, Justice will DS> be done". "Homebound" could have a lot of consideration. If simply no car a lot of people in New York City could qualify! "Can't leave the house" almost implies one has an ankle monitor! BM> "Ask your doctor about 'Syde-FX'!" DS> Coffee is necessary for life. The dinosaurs didn't have it, and DS> look what happened to them. Hmm: imagine a T. Rex as a waiter/waitress! Poor thing trying to carry a platter with those short arms! DS> On that, I'm reminded about a statement that comedian Jeff DS> Foxworthy made... "the kids are getting out of diapers, and the DS> grandparents are going into them"...shall we say "I resemble that DS> remark". Getting old is not for sissies, and if you call me a DS> sissy, I'll hit you with my purse. When I note my age to DS> fellow ham radio operators (most are older than me), they note DS> "you're still a puppy", and I say "At least I'm weaned and potty DS> trained". :P Good one!! BM> Your general area of the country was on the news. ...My Mother (living BM> in southern New Hampshire about 45 miles north of Boston) is fretting BM> about the snow storm forecast for this weekend. Overnight here in the BM> Quad Cities some snow flurries -- can see some snow on the lawn. That BM> storm tracked north and might be the one my Mother is going to get. DS> I saw a deal on FoxWeather this morning (nature and a nightmare DS> woke me, so that's why I'm up again before the buttcrack of DS> dawn), where they are expecting a major Nor'easter late next DS> week. If the low pressure area is closer to shore, the I-95 DS> corridor will get rain, with snow further inland. But, the storm DS> is forecast to be so powerful, that if it tracks a bit more DS> offshore, then even the I-95 corridor will see significant snow. Yup. My Mother has sort of prepared herself for the potential nasty weather: has a supply of food which should last at least a week. A year or so I got her some LED nightlights with battery backup. I don't think I've gotten through to her the cordless phones won't work if the power is off but she does have several wired telephones. And she does keep her cell phone charged though she tends to forget how to make calls. DS> Can you say travel nightmare, boys and girls?? I knew you DS> could. :P Step #1: Slow down!! DS> We have a chance of a light wintry mix to rain here early DS> Monday, then a chance of light snow Thursday. Late next week, we DS> likely won't get above freezing in central Arkansas, with wind DS> chill advisories and warnings not out of the question, especially DS> across north Arkansas. This is "pipe busting cold", and "radiator DS> busting cold". At least you don't have to worry about outdoor DS> insects in this cold. We had some light snow last night: lawn is white and some on the cars but looks like the sidewalks, driveway and street is almost clear. (That lat one wil probably change in a week or so!) BM> It's supposed to get up to around 37ø; was 31ø when I checked at 6:15. DS> As of 4am CST, Dec. 17, it's 30 here. Next Friday, they're DS> calling for a low of 11, and a high of 26. 12ø here currently at 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning. High forecast to be 22ø. ...Looked at a different report to get the forecast and it said 9ø -- think the 9ø is the NWS at the Quad City Airport in Moline, IL, about five miles East. The 12ø is probably from a hobbyist a few blocks from here. There's another NWS at the Davenport (IA) municipal airport about seven miles northwest and not unusual to have a four or five degree difference. Oh, back the forecast: Thursday the 22nd there's a prediction of a high of 9ø! (Low is 4ø.) BM> Either due to overwatering or underwatering: they're particular! DS> They're stone cold this time of year. :P Just how cold is a stone? ¯ BarryMartin3@ ® ¯ @MyMetronet.NET ® ....
