Subj : Various Things To : Daryl Stout From : Barry Martin Date : Wed Dec 21 2022 10:58:00 Hi Daryl! BM> As long as it stays good you're fine! My bilirubin results just into BM> the high side by a decimal point or two. Have been for consistent for BM> decades. (Hey: someone has to be on the norms up! ) DS> Christian comedian Chonda Pierce has sleep apnea (I do as DS> well). She said her reading in the sleep study was "very high", DS> and she quipped "I've always been an over achiever". But, she DS> added that "you look like an astronaut with that mask on, then DS> have this huge hickey all over your face!!". :P She's over-achieving again: supposed to be just the neck. DS> They've made progress with these, but the one I originally had DS> required water...and the way lightning occurs here during DS> thunderstorms, I could be fatally electrocuted if an overnight DS> lightning strike occurs. I have no idea where it is DS> now...somewhere in the stuff in the garage, but after hernia DS> surgery awhile back, I can't lift anything heavy. And you thought popping buttons off your shirt was bad! DS> Shoot...just the food off the plate to the mouth (I do watch DS> what I eat ) can be a major effort...especially this time of DS> year. I'm trans-slender, but I identify as "skinny". Let me guess: you use your eye teeth to watch your food?! DS> I told Santa "Define Naughty", and he said "OK, I'll skip your DS> place". But now Santa is being naught for not sharing! BM> Sort of a mixed metaphor: never look at a doctor's bill on an empty BM> stomach. DS> That happened in an episode of The Flintstones. When Fred and DS> Barney entered the clinic, this guy was coming out screaming in DS> agony. Fred asked if the guy was OK, and the nurse said "He's DS> fine...the doctor just showed him the bill". Pyschiatrists could use that for shock treatment! DS> The dry corneas with my eyes have been really bad lately. With DS> the central heat running nearly constantly with the cold weather DS> outside (it'll really be brutal here Thursday afternoon until DS> after Christmas), my eyes and sinuses have been drying out. Good news: you won't have a runny nose! Bad news: blow your nose and sand come out! As for the dry corneas, maybe do what my optometrist has suggested: 'deep blinks'. Blink for about a half-second and mid-blink (when lids closed fully) squeeze the lid muscles together. This should help produce a tear or two and help force the liquid into the eye membrane. (I found doing too often is counter-productive as only so much lubricating tears is produced at a time.) BM> Those darn Raspberry Pi's have become real expensive due problems in BM> the semiconductor market. Good news is just read a 100,000 (not sure BM> of the number) will be available soon. Hopefully the ones I ordered BM> over a year ago at normal price will be shipped. (Good news: my credit BM> card hasn't been charged. Bad news: makes statement reconsiliation a BM> hare more complicated.) DS> There is a different type of RPi now, called an ODroid N2+ -- DS> you have to download a different version of Linux, but there's a DS> 2GB and a 4GB version available, both from Amazon. It also has a DS> large heat sink, so the data won't be throttled if the unit gets DS> warm from use. It can be rather pricy though... I think around DS> $200 for 2GB and $350 for 4GB (Canadian funds...not sure what the DS> US equivalent is). Last I checked the US was about 80% of the Candian. ...Yup: US$1 is CN$1.36. As for the alternative to the RPi, I considered but at this point I want to keep things simple so everything is pretty much the same and interchangeable. Plus the prices are still higher than I like, especially when I have a couple of spare units. BM> There's a few "comment cartoon panels" (not sure what they're called) BM> with pictures like Wile E. Cayote blowing up something, Elmer Fudd and BM> his rifle and the comment underneath along the lines of "I remember BM> watching these cartoons and I haven't blown anything up/killed anyone". BM> I don't think we knew better back then, possibly more how reacted. DS> We were smart enough to know "Do Not Try This At Home". I don't know if I would classify myself as that smart as did a few shall-we-say dumb things but just knew not to do some things. BM> Go back and rinse your mouth! DS> As Crusoe the celebrity Dachshund, with his "sister" Daphne DS> did, in preparing for "Hurricane Ding-a-Ling", they had plenty of DS> fresh water... but it came from Eau De Toilet. :P Yum! A hint of . ...Theoretically the tank water is clean enough for human consumption. BM> Those will help! ...Wondering how the "provide transportation" part BM> will be working: could be either a pre-paid type of service or BM> post-paid where you pay, submit the bill, and then get reimbursed. DS> Not sure...there was some other mail in the Post Office Box DS> this morning according to the Informed Delivery app...but with DS> other expenses, I have to let it wait until after the new year. 'Com on 2025!! BM> "Homebound" could have a lot of consideration. If simply no car a lot BM> of people in New York City could qualify! "Can't leave the house" BM> almost implies one has an ankle monitor! DS> That's true...but my criminal record is clean. Before I did a DS> brief stint at the Little Rock 911 center (the stress is so DS> extreme that only 1 out of 100 people can do it...I wasn't one of DS> them), they did a full criminal background check on me. I wouldn't want a emergency services type of job. My thinking process is more a super-quick consideration of (most) options and so there is a quarter- or half-second delay before I respond. More than enough to probably further freak-out the person calling about an emergency. BM> Hmm: imagine a T. Rex as a waiter/waitress! Poor thing trying to carry BM> a platter with those short arms! DS> He probably had one heck of a belch. :P Or, he could've been DS> like Marvin the T-Rex in the Hoyle Board Games. I'm thinking Marvin the Martian -- two completely different Marvins! That's another job I wouldn't consider; well, multiple: server, busperson, cook/chef. Don't like touching dirty plates -- well, transporting is fine, just I need to rinse by hands after. BM> Yup. My Mother has sort of prepared herself for the potential nasty BM> weather: has a supply of food which should last at least a week. A BM> year or so I got her some LED nightlights with battery backup. I don't BM> think I've gotten through to her the cordless phones won't work if the BM> power is off but she does have several wired telephones. And she does BM> keep her cell phone charged though she tends to forget how to make BM> calls. DS> We might get a dusting of snow here on Thursday, but could see DS> a 30 degree temperature drop in 2 hours!! It'll be below freezing DS> from Thursday afternoon until the day after Christmas...that's DS> pipe bursting weather. I'm afraid many folks whose pipes freeze DS> up will try to thaw them with a blowtorch, and end up burning DS> their residence down. They're also warning folks to "stay off of DS> the ponds", as the ice will be too thin to hold any kind of DS> weight. Right: it hasn't been cold enough long enough to have the pond water freeze to a sufficiently thick depth. They've issued a Winter Weather Warning (whatever the correct term is -- sorry Mike!) for Midnight tonight (currently December 21) through I think Midnight Saturday - several days anyway. And not only for here in eastern Iowa but ALLLL of the Midwest. Problem isn't so much with the snow amount (regionally anyway from 2" for SE Iowa to 12" in NE Iowa -- I'm in the middle) but more an issue with the blowing of the light fluffy snow in the 50 MPH winds. Actually I'm kind of excited to be in the storm, though plan to stay inside a snuggly-warm house and experience it through the windows. BM> Step #1: Slow down!! DS> I'm speeding because I have to go poop. :P Keep it: freeze, break into chunks for traction! BM> We had some light snow last night: lawn is white and some on the cars BM> but looks like the sidewalks, driveway and street is almost clear. BM> (That lat one wil probably change in a week or so!) DS> Apparently, the cold will go all the way down through DS> Florida...the winter clothes are broken out once it gets below DS> 70!! They were expecting a freeze all the way to central Florida, DS> if not further south. There goes the price of orange and DS> grapefruit juice through the roof...just like all the rest of the DS> groceries. Yeah.... One would think if frozen on the trees the price of frozen orange and grapefruit juice would go down as already frozen! BM> 12ø here currently at 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning. High forecast to be BM> 22ø. ...Looked at a different report to get the forecast and it said BM> 9ø -- think the 9ø is the NWS at the Quad City Airport in Moline, IL, BM> about five miles East. The 12ø is probably from a hobbyist a few BM> blocks from here. There's another NWS at the Davenport (IA) municipal BM> airport about seven miles northwest and not unusual to have a four or BM> five degree difference. DS> That's the same with the Little Rock National Airport, and the DS> National Weather Service at the North Little Rock Airport...the DS> latter is on a hill, and on some nights, the temperature DS> difference can be from 10-20 degrees!! It seems like shouldn't be true but it is! Not that much distance but can be quite a bit of change. DS> Nature and a nightmare woke me...so after I finish the BBS DS> stuff, I'm going back to bed for a bit. And you've better be sleeping Saturday around midnight!! ¯ BarryMartin3@ ® ¯ @MyMetronet.NET ® .... Which of Santa's reindeer needs to mind his manners?
