Mike,
While reading your post I started thinking about Don Lancaster's Cookbooks sold
by Radio Shack Stores.

He wrote stories in Popular Electronics magazine(s) too explaining ways to use
semiconductors in projects.
His "TV Typewriter Cookbook" helped me in deciding to buy a Netronics
ASCII/BAUDOT Keyboard  andtheir Videoboard to get me on RTTY (RadioTeletype) .
Don L. wrote simply enough that a simple person like me could learn .
