I think it's more of a -- well, 'conflict' between the way a computer does things and a human thinks it should. From other 'Terminal observations' it appears each window has its own environment. Maybe 'environment' is more 'set of local variables': I've done things which are essentially VAR="doo-dad" in Terminal Window #1 and while still in Window 1 echo $VAR will display 'doo-dad' but Window 2 will display a blank line. So if we close Window #2 then Window #1 doesn't see the command list from the other window. ANd of course just to confuse us humans it seems this 'rule' doesn't work all the time. I _think_ some of the system-wide variable are stored in another place, so I can do a reverse find for FIND, but the scroll-back search doesn't work. A for the frustrating part, agree. What I try to do is have an electronic notepad open so I can copy from Terminal and paste to the notes. Naturally that can create a different set of problems: the double-hyphen can be converted to a single long hyphem (an 'em' I think it's termed). Single and double quotes usually remain the boring-cause -plain upright type but sometimes going from the notes to Terminal the angled or curled quote marks get imported. Using a plain font in the notes resolves most of the issues. ¯ ® ¯ BarryMartin3@MyMetronet.NET ® ¯ ® .... How tell difference between chemist & plumber?
