EV> Ky and All, EV> A 2TB HDD is the largest my XP box can write to. Yes, 'natively'; can use larger capacities but require a few tricks, which might not be such a good idea for use with a backup. EV> Besidesmaking abackup occassionally with True Image I EV> occasionally make a text EV> file by using dir/s/-p >> (a filenameYYMMDD.txt) from C:\ . EV> Or dir /b/s/-p to a text file. EV> Those Directory listing files I put in a subdirectory so Ican EV> open the latest EV> one when I want to search for a file or files that have a word I EV> am looking for. From my dusty Windows memory, sounds good. The only thing I might do different is use a batch file for automating it. I would also suggest using the full pathname rather than rely on a cd (change directory). Can use both: cd \pickles copy -av c:\recipies\pickles\*.* d:\%TODAY\recipies\pickles Or whatever the Windows criteria is. Just checked and doesn't appear there is an 'archieve' switch (the -a). Oh: the reasoning behind use of the full pathname was in case the computer got confused because there wasn't something to do in a previous step it would know exactly where you wanted the file. ¯ ® ¯ BarryMartin3@MyMetronet.NET ® ¯ ® ....
