That wouldn't have worked with my parents!  My Mother was patient with 
Dad: knew things took time and figuring (research) but if it was 
something like 'her room' where my Mother would be the primary user she 
was consultant and advisor.  Not implying any type of "sterotypical person
matching description does role" thing.  She did a lot of the cooking, 
kitchen layout should be her preference.
