When I help a friend set up his podcast studio, we knew that cable management was a key element to keep things running efficiently. Not only did he have several computers going, but video and audio gear as well. We used a three-pronged plan of attack: For cables that must be used with a specific piece of equipment, tag both ends with what it plugs into. For all others, not only were they tagged, but we tried to get appropriate lengths so there wasn't an excess of cable lying around, and we color coded them so wer knew at a glancee where they hooked up to. Once we got everything set up, I created a sheet detailing what and where every cable went to, so if we had to make changes it would make the job easier. It's a tedious process, but well worth it if you have a bunch of gear wired togeter in the same area. .
