We've been encouraged to wear some sort of face covering almost from the
beginning... my sister made a lot of them for family and friends... we
managed without for quite a while, but then there was a new mandate
saying that everyone needed to wear one when in public when not able to
do the 6' social distancing... so we got a couple masks each from my
sister after all... Driving a private vehicle one doesn't need to wear
one, children under 4 are exempt, or where medical issues override...
It's still somewhat voluntary, but various places require it now, like
grocery and other stores... Servers in restaurants are required to wear
them, in order to open for (limited) eat-in, as are customers when not
sitting at the tables to eat...
