KM> *blink* They have reinvented edlin. Might be a distant cousin with a better eductaion. If anything improved: I remember used EDLIN on my DEC Rainbow 100 to type a letter or notes: no line wrap so if need to add a character it either truncated or one ended up with an orphaned line if the original line went past the right margin. KM> Anyone else visualizing Barry Goldberg (from _The Goldbergs_) running?! KM> When I need a text editor, I like Kate, or KWrite (same program, KM> simpler interface). Possibly good, no personal experience. One little detail on nano is apparently it is popular with the people setting up configurations. If something to be configured the first time (like cron ==> crontab -e) a popup will occur asking in one wants to use nano, vi, or some a third option which I don't recall right now. If I were to use text editors a lot I'd probably be familiar with nano because it is used for configurations and also one more complex like your Kate. KM> Or the text editor that comes with the Xfe file manager, that's KM> nice too. (I like Xfe, except it can't see network drives.) So nearighted? Only see drives close by?! KM> Xfe has a root mode (runs as a separate instance) and you can set KM> colors different from user mode, so you're reminded that you're KM> one or the other. That is handy. I've sort of used that visual cue to remind me which computer I'm on when I remote in (Remmina. TigerVNC) by changing the Desktop picture. ¯ ® ¯ BarryMartin3@MyMetronet.NET ® ¯ ® ....
