In this case, because it is a door game installed via git and compiled locally, debian package management wouldn't know that anything was relying on the dev library in question. I can forgive that. There are a couple of other non-BBS annoyances I am still getting used to that also are not 100% debian related. The GIMP is up to a newer version now and it has some annoying quirks. There are some things that were easier to do with the previous version (including one where I swear they reverted a behavior back a version or two, effectively removing a useful feature).
