Even if it is a flatpak it can get broken.  I was running an older version
of shotcut, installed outside of apt/dpkg, because the debian version
that came with 11 or 12 did not work.  I always assumed it needed too many
resources.

With the upgrade to 13, it became unable to render video.  I was able to
install the version that comes with 13 and it did work, thank goodness.

About the only way to keep older versions working is to run a vm with the
older distro, or stop upgrading.

I hate to say it, but I can see a time in the near future where keeping up
with the latest linux releases (so one can keep up with the security
updates!) is going to be just like keeping up with windows... lots of stuff
breaking and lots of "it isn't a bug, it's a feature" instances.  :(
