Generally, I'm not a fan of the public way fidonet echos are  
made available to non-registered users/visitors.  But it makes  
it easier to share a post to friends who know nothing about the  
network.  It could serve as a way to attract people to actually  
considering joining a bbs and participate in an echo.

However there is one other shortcoming in the FTN-echos matter  
- and that is there is not necessary a complete list of  
available echos for a particular network.  I mean.. I could  
steer a friend to a particular bbs, but their collection of  
echos would be just a few selected ones that only the sysop  
wants.  Whereas, another bbs my have a longer list of available  
echos.  That discrepency can frustrate and detract  
participants.

Perhaps if the sbbs/forum system offered a list of requestable  
echos that the publc can search for and browse then that might  
be very helpful.
