I do like Vi, and I will say, if you are JUST editing text, it is better than Emacs, more ergonomic.  But at work, I use Emacs because it has Org Mode, and integrated calculator and I can run my own LISP programs, which can automate tasks like creating MS Word documents from a templated with data pulled from a CSV.

As for QWK packets, thanks for the offer but I'll see how I go for now as things are now.
