When I was learning to drive in 1989, a friend's father who was a rather gruff individual, taught me this: "Green means go, red means stop, yellow means go really f*cking fast!"  I don't blow yellow lights as I've seen too many accidents but if I am by myself out in the country and the light turns yellow and there's no one waiting at the other side of the intersection, I still stop.
