Our local power board was pimping BPL for a while then they dropped it, 
deciding that running fiber would be best.  A lot of locals, not just the 
hams, complained about BPL.

I don't expect to do much shortwave listening or amateur radio from home.  I 
will probably wait and get a couple of golf cart batteries and wire them in 
series so I can operate remotely in the mountains, away from RFI and with some 
peace and quiet.  I'd love to get a couple of portable solar panels to help 
charge those batteries while I'm operating.
