In my town, taxis are $26 for a one-way ride anywhere within the town limits.

I'm sorry, but no, I'll find my own way there or go without.

Uber is not much cheaper.

I'm hoping I can get a car this year.  Just renewed my driver's license 
for 10 years and I now have 20/20 vision thanks to my cataract 
surgeries (for near vision I need reading glasses).

This town was not designed for walking.  Everything is very spread out 
and even the public transit system has a very limited route map and 
limited hours... and the buses doen't run on weekends.
