When I was growing up my parents used a lot of the common "parent-isms" many of us hear:

- "You'll understand when you're older"
- "Enjoy being a kid, it'll be over before you know it"
- "Money doesn't grow on trees" or "I'm not made of money"
- "Don't crack your knuckles or you'll get arthritis"
- "If you shake it more than twice, you're playing with it"

You know, stuff like that.  Another one I recall hearing a lot is something along the lines of "<year> wasn't that long ago" or "the older you get, the faster time goes by".

This past weekend I celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary, which really got me thinking: Where the hell did the time go?

It seems like "just a couple of years ago" I was one of the youngest guys working at my company, newly married & all bright-eyed and bushy tailed.

Blink a couple of times and here I am 20 years married and enjoying a nice weekend away at the ice wine festival in Niagara-on-the-lake.  I guess I'm beginning to understand a lot of what my parents were saying, like "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans".

I'll be turning 46 this year which also seems astonishing as I don't feel old enough to be someone my age!  ;)

All-in-all, still a lot of tread on the tire and looking forward to matching or even beating my grandparents record of 66 years of marriage.
