I have no issues with emulation.
My issue lies with the crappy proposition.
It is cheaper and better IMO to use for example RetroPi.
Costs less, is faster and much, much more versatile. (and can emulate many,
many different systems not only C64)

So the joystick would be the only possible saving grace.
If that is crap too then I do not see any point in using the C64 Mini.

I am using a real C64 currently, and I have ordered a C64 ultimate ...

Just my 2 cents.
