Regular skin didn't show a scar after the knife was withdrawn.
The ending showed the man putting the tool to his neck to demonstrate how safe
it was.
At that moment the people in the future turned the tool settings off.
The man slit his throat while he was demonstrating the tool.

That's as close as I remember the show.
Probably the show was on in the 1970's is as far as I can guess.
Got the Commodore 64 in March 1984 and didn't watch as much TV after then.
