At that moment the people in the future turned the tool settings off. The man slit his throat while he was demonstrating the tool. That's as close as I remember the show. Probably the show was on in the 1970's is as far as I can guess. Got the Commodore 64 in March 1984 and didn't watch as much TV after then.
