What do you want to have with you at all times?

- a baton (bringing a gun to a country where they are prohibited will just        get you flagged)...
 - $100 in USD if in a second world country and $200 in USD
       if in a first world country
- a global banking card (Interac, American Express, International VISA ---        this will give you a lot of cash fast if you're in trouble
- a global phone card, especially useful is one with a toll free number that        is used to get on the long distance phone carrier
- a function phone (not a smart phone), so you can remove its battery when not        in use, yet have an emergency method of communications

Does anyone have any other ideas?
