Depending on clearance rules there may be several medical hurdles.

Often one or more psychological exams as well.  

Maybe profiling (both passive and active) and retroactive surveillence (you knew there would be permanent black marks in your permanent file when you snuck that kiss with the red headed girl in third grade, right?)

Don't be surprised if there is hair collected as well as blood work (harder to purge hair of illegal drugs).
