Subj : Sp00knet Prize Draw - Christmas Eve 2023 To : All From : warmfuzzy Date : Fri Oct 06 2023 20:50:24 A Sp00knet Prize Draw: What is Your Opinion? I'm interested in your opinions on what a prize draw for The Sp00knet Echomail Network would look like. I'm willing to spend $100 USD on some sort of kit to be given away to the highest posters. At home I've got a brand new, still in shrink wrap, US Robotics v92 56k external serial modem. I would need to buy a USB to Serial cable and a 9-pin to 25-pin adapter to go along with the modem to make it work on a modern GNU/Linux distribution. The modem itself goes for about $50 USD, the cable goes for $25 USD, and the adapter goes for around $10 USD, and a heavily insulated RJ-11/FSX phone cable goes for around $15 USD a total of $100 USD. This is a heck of a lot of money, but I'm willing to spend it on the person who does the most posts because this network means so much to me. All of these items are of the highest quality and are worth a very lot to me. A network for testing out this kit is linked at https://2600.network. PHATstar has its own node on this network which can be reached at 778-716-PHAT, which is a phone number based in British Colombia, Canada. The technology that will go into this equipment is state of the art: the USB cable uses the FTDI chipset, the adapter is brand new from StarTech, the phone cable is from C2G (Cables to Go) and is either 25 or 50 feet, and the 56k v92 modem is an external black US Robotics Sportster FAX/Modem. A hundred dollars worth of computer technology, especially brand new kit should fetch a fair exchange, so I'll be requiring 40 posts to win this prize, with the first person who gets to 40 posts resulting in the winner. I have tested this setup on GNU/Linux (Ubuntu) and it works just fine. So you can be assured that your prize will work, on GNU/Linux Ubuntu anyhow, and if you don't have a need for a modem at this point in time you can use it as a FAX machine to send your documents to your doctor's office, pharmacy, government ministry, or other places where FAXes are still used. FAX machines can be annoying by having solicitors sending advertisements to your FAX causing you to pay for printouts of their advertisements which you probably have no use or need for. By using a FAX modem with computer software you can view and print only what you have received that you actually want printed. There should be a minimum number of words for a post to count, which I will set at an easy 150 words, not placing too much of a burden on the participants of this prize draw. I want to get some significant work from the contestants as $100 USD is no small amount of coin, and at the same time they are getting one of their favorite nets in a better position of more quality posts. I must again emphasize just how amazing this prize pack really is: all this equipment is of the highest quality and is brand new, having all been tested in Ubuntu GNU/Linux, of which identical kit has been tested by me personally on my own system, working just fine on it. I intend on running a prize draw at least yearly with an investment of around $100 USD for each prize draw. If a winner is located outside of Canada and the United States of America we will be sending $50 USD to the prize winner via PayPal.
