Subj : Prepping To : All From : debian Date : Thu Jan 18 2024 20:31:35 Greetings! This past week has emphasized the importance of prepping and testing your preps! I live in south western Idaho and we got hit with about 1.5 feet of snow. Not much for allot of you out there, but 1.5 feet of snow can cause serious problems if you are not prepared. I would recommend having atleast a month of food and water stored, having backup options for heat, and a reliable source of obtaining water. Most of us can live without power (or minimal power), but for those who are dependant on it, have a back up generator (or 2 of them). But thats not all. You see, where I live, I have a heated well pump, a propane heater as well as a wood burning stove, 10 gallons of water stored up (for one guy, that will last around a week assuming minimal usage), plenty of food, and my property is solar powered. You would think I would be OK - BUT! My means of transportation consists of one low riding car. Not a good idea in 1.5 feet of snow! I got stuck a bunch of times and had to head into the city for the week .. where I STILL GOT STUCK! The snow plows took 4 days before they plowed the roads and an additional 3 days before they plowed the subdivisions. My parents had to resort to using their truck to travel into the city. A very important point as this demonstrated a flaw in my prep! Your method of transportation should also be taken into consideration when planning and prepping. What good is your transportation if your vehicle can't travel in 1.5 feet of snow? Hence I am purchasing a truck now rather than in the spring. I have heard that the priorities of prepping are: - Food - Water - Shelter - Clothing - Means of Self Defence - A plan One more thing should be added to that: - A reliable means of transportation. I would place this below a means of self defence. It is important, but since most of us have a means of transportation and allot of you reading this probably already own a truck, it is not a top priority, but something to be aware of. These priorities should change depending on your situation. I hope this has helped you in some way. 73, Debian -.-. --.- -.-. --.- -.- --. --... ..- .--- ....
