To us lay folk all radiation is much the same, but not when used as a tag.

The levels and types vary, and for many certain types of counters will pick it up, other counters may not look for the radiation type.

There is a lot of ambient radiation, so your detector needs to focus on the level and type, and where it is coming from (like the person).
