I have a Kenwood R-1000 sw Sk> radio box that hadly ever get turned on this days. Will start using it Sk> to scan the dx-waves again. I'd like to get into buying better equipment HF radios always cost more than I'm willing to spend. The FT-817 does everything, but it's only a 5 watt radio (QRP we say...). I have one and it's a lot of fun tossing a wire up in a tree and talking to people around the world on 5 watts. The great thing is, it's a small radio, so you can put it in a backpack and it does VHF and UHF in addition to the HF bands. The 897 is a tough, portable field radio that can do the full 100 watts, all bands and modes. Kenwood has some very nice units like the 480. You can get good deals on radios via hamfests and local swap boards. Local clubs are also a good place to ask around. I have an Elecraft K3 which I built from a kit. Awesome rig, although not the most durable! It is very lightweight and has one of the best receivers in the game. |10z|02E|08RO |10r|02E|08ADER|07 --- Mystic BBS v1.11 (Raspberry Pi) * Origin: Alcoholiday / Est. 1995 / alco.bbs.io (9:91/18) .
