Subj : AirChat with Baofeng UV-5R+ and PC To : All From : Indrid Cold Date : Fri Nov 04 2016 11:10:00 Hello, how are you guys - hoping well. Yesterday I've managed with a friend of mine to finally setup an AirChat station, using a laptop with Debian + rtxt Baofeng UV+5R+ and some custom cable, by my end. The other guy was using the same Baofeng model + subnotebook Aspire with Windows, and same type of cables. Here's the link to the project, interesting for communicating in case of calamities, disasters and other emergencies like government drop, Internet shutdown, etc. - ex. Syria dissidents, quakes... https://github.com/lulzlabs/AirChat It uses PERL, and some other dependencies, but nothing of impossible to configure, for each platform - as backend, it uses the famous FLDIGI and obviously own soundcard in/out cabled to rxtx. We managed to send messages, with the possibility to encrypt, inserting own callsign, administer potential Twitter accounts and useful TOR network - give it a try, it's a cheap way to experiment with packet radio. Now I'm trying to setup one of my Raspberry-like boards to stable AirChat station, to form with other friends a sort of mesh radio network between us.
