It's good to know friends who can pass on the skills needed to sharpen knifes.
I still know such a person, from my days working at the fire department in the
80's and 90's. Ted Porter, was more the happy to bring his stones to work with
him. His grandfater showed his Dad, who passed on those skills to Ted.. then on
 to the rest of us. This reminds me of an episode of Hillbilly Blood. The local
 Knife makers of Cold Mountain, NC. would barder and trade just about anything
in the local scrap yard for old metal. Saw blades that where scraped made
perfect homemade knifes. Reference (White bone knifes) on youtube, how to make
a knife handle step by step. Anyway, these guys made some awesome knifes that
