The Hurt Locker (2008) RT score: 96% Director: Kathryn Bigelow Runtime: 127 minutes Age rating: R Arriving on: October 1 Thanks to The Hurt Locker , which won 'Best Picture' at the 82nd Academy Awards, Kathryn Bigelow broke a huge record by becoming the first woman to win the Oscar for 'Best Director'. Bigelow's war drama gives an insight to one of the most dangerous tasks in combat: disarming bombs. Set during the Iraq War, sergeant William James (Jeremy Renner) takes over as the leader of an elite US bomb disposal team, but adopts a very different approach to team leadership. His disregard for protocol takes the rest of his team by surprise, especially his subordinates Sanborn (Anthony Mackie) and Eldridge (Brian Geraghty), who fear that James' actions will get them killed. Struggling to reason with their new leader, James' actions cause a chaotic spiral. The Martian (2015) RT score: 91% Director: Ridley Scott Runtime: 142 minutes Age rating: PG-13 Arriving on: October 2 Andy Weir's novel of the same name serves as the basis to Ridley Scott's sci-fi epic, which packs an all-star cast featuring Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels and Chiwetel Ejiofor, alongside Matt Damon in the lead role. During a mission to Mars, a team of astronauts find themselves faced with an unpredicted storm. Forced to abandon their mission and return to Earth, astronaut and botanist Mark Watney (Damon) is hit during evacuation and is presumed dead by the other members of the team but he survives. Stranded on the Red Planet with dwindling food supplies, Watney uses his botany skills to grow food and find his own means of survival until the next Mars mission in four years time. When NASA discover he's still alive, they hatch a plan to bring him home. Ip Man 2 (2010) RT score: 97% Director: Wilson Yip Runtime: 109 minutes Age rating: R Arriving on: October 5 The Ip Man series of movies are a loose insight to the temperament and craft of real-life Chinese martial arts master Ip Man. There are five movies in the series, but only four of which are coming to Netflix October 5 and it's only the second installment that has a 97% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Set during the 1950s, Ip Man 2 follows Ip Man (Donnie Yen) when he moves from Foshun to Hong Kong under British colonial rule to open a martial arts school and introduce troubled youth to the art of Wing Chun. He finds himself struggling to open his school when the local martial art masters insist he defeats them before the school opens. After earning their respect, his school attracts the attention of the brutal British boxing champion known as 'The Twister' (Darren Shahlavi), who will stop at nothing to tear down the Chinese martial arts community. Its voice acting cast is also very impressive, enlisting the talents of John Cena, Rose Byrne, Ayo Edebiri and Paul Rudd to bring the characters to life. The famous band of four turtle brothers have been living a secluded life, sheltered from the human world. Teaming up with reporter April O'Neil (Edebiri), the turtles embark on a mission to become superheroes and stop the crime boss Superfly (Ice Cube), a mutant fly with his own army of mutant animals. Their mission becomes more difficult when they find that Superfly's plan is more evil than they anticipated, who's plotting to use special technology to mutate the remaining animals in New York City and take over humanity.
