The Command and Conquer community is still very active, I think. They patched
and repurposed the Win 95 version of CnC 1 and there is a lot of online play.

The problem with modern online play of real time strategy games is that
hardcore gamers are brutal. They issue more than a command per second. The
games are no longer about strategy, they are about smashing buttons harder :-)
