Added a missed win pose Added Shameless Promotion ^_^ ============================================================================ - Table of Contents -------------------------------------------------------- ============================================================================ Section 1 - Introduction Section 2 - Abbrieviations Section 3 - Special Moves Section 4 - Super Moves Section 5 - Combos Section 6 - General Strategy Section 7 - Partners Section 8 - Vs. Sagat Section 9 - Miscellaneous Section 10 - Credits Section 11 - In Closing ============================================================================ - Section 1 - Introduction ------------------------------------------------- ============================================================================ Why should I use Sagat? I asked myself that same question years ago. I didn't pay much attention to him in Street Fighter 2 but realized he was a tough opponent. It was in the Alpha games I gained a new respect for the Muay Thai Master. Seeing how he could wear down his opponents with his speedy projectiles, Devastating supers and rock solid defense. Now after a dry spell(DAMN YOU CAPCOM WHY WASN'T HE IN SFIII AND MvC) he returns and not suprisingly remains virtually unchanged and still a force to be rekoned with. I consider myself an above average Sagat player so hopefully I can teach you to effectivly use him. ============================================================================ - Section 2 - Abbrieviations ----------------------------------------------- ============================================================================ This is just a list of motions Sagat uses, for a full list of game basics refer to the instruction manual or Sailor Bacon's excellent guide at GameFAQS. All motions in this guide assume you're facing right, if facing left, reverse foward and back motions(duh). s. = do the following move while standing c. = do the following move while crouching j. = do the following move while jumping f = foward b = back u = up d = down uf = up and foward ub = up and back df = down and foward db = down and back qcf = quarter circle forward (d, df, f) qcb = quarter circle back (d, db, b) dp = "dragon punch" motion (f, d, df) P = any punch K = any kick PP = both punches KK = both kicks LP = light punch HP = hard punch LK = light kick HK = hard kick ============================================================================ - Section 3 - Special Moves ------------------------------------------------ ============================================================================ Tiger Shot: qcf + P -Yep it's a fireball. The big advantage this has is that due to Sagat's height it travels very high making it difficult for opponents to jump over. The disavantage is that it can easily crouched under. Ground Tiger Shot: qcf + K -Another fireball. This is the same as the Tiger Shot only it travels lower. Easy to jump over but hits crouching opponents. Tiger Uppercut: dp + P -No this isn't the multi-hitting killer uppercut from the alpha games(DAMN). This hits only once but is still an effective anti-air move and combo ender. Tiger Crush: dp + K, EX: qcf, uf +K -Sagat leaps foward and up and hits with his knee. A decent anti-air move and and rushing attack. It's biggest asset is that it comes out quickly and has fast recovery. Hits twice up close. Note the different motion between normal and EX. ============================================================================ - Section 4 - Super Moves -------------------------------------------------- ============================================================================ Tiger Destroyer: qcf, d, df +P Normal only -Don't be fooled, this is not a new move. Its the good old Tiger Genocide with a new name. A powerful combination of the Tiger Crush and Tiger Uppercut. Sagat will perform the Tiger Crush knocking opponents into the air and juggle them with a multi-hitting Tiger Uppercut. At level three he performs two Tiger Uppercuts. This move also goes through projectiles at its startup. Hits 7 times at level 1, 10 times at level 2 and 14 times at level three. Tiger Raid: qcb, qcb + K Normal only -Horrible range but a powerful move. Sagat performs an auto combo made up of an onslaught of kicks ending with a flying horozontal kick. At level three flames are added(ooo...pretty). Hits 6 times at level 1 and 7 times at levels 2 and 3. Tiger Cannon: qcf, qcf + P EX only -A souped up multi-hitting Tiger shot. Looks just like a normal Tiger Shot. Eats other projectiles removing a hit and at level three the opponent busts into flames. Has the same problem as the regular Tiger Shot, if your opponent crouches, you'll miss. Hits 4 times at level 1, 5 times at level 2 and 6 times at level 3. Ground Tiger Cannon: qcf, qcf + K EX only -A souped up multi-hitting Ground Tiger shot. Looks just like a normal Ground Tiger Shot. Eats other projectiles removing a hit and at level three the opponent busts into flames. Has the same problem as the Ground Tiger Shot, it's easily jumped over. If you didn't notice I just cut and pasted this description and changed a few words :). Hits 4 times at level 1, 5 times at level 2 and 6 times at level 3. ============================================================================ - Section 5 - Combos ------------------------------------------------------- ============================================================================ Note: All combos work in either Capcom or SNK groove Chain/Two-in-one combos c1 - j.LK/HK, s.HK, Tiger Shot/Tiger Uppercut/Tiger Crush c2 - j.LK/HK, s.HP, Tiger Shot/Tiger Uppercut/Tiger Crush c3 - j.LK/HK, s.LP, Tiger Shot/Tiger Uppercut/Tiger Crush c4 - j.LK/HK, s.LK, Tiger Shot/Tiger Uppercut/Tiger Crush c5 - j.LK/HK, c.LP, df + LK, Tiger Shot(Normal only) Super Combos Note:For the following combos to work you must "Super Cancel" into the last move in each combo. Note:c5 is a juggle combo. The oppnent must be airborne when the HP connects c1 - j.LK/HK, s.LK/HK, Tiger Destroyer(Normal only) c2 - j.LK/HK, s.LK/HK, Tiger Raid(Normal only) c3 - j.LK/HK, s.LK/HK, Tiger Cannon(EX only) c4 - j.LK/HK, s.LK/HK, Ground Tiger Cannon(EX only) c5 - HP, Tiger Cannon(EX only) ============================================================================ - Section 6 - General Strategy---------------------------------------------- ============================================================================ -When playing as Sagat, KEEP YOUR DISTANCE!!! Sagat is slow and in close quarters speedy characters can land blows mush faster then you can. -The Tiger Shots are your best friend. Continuously lob them to chip away at your opponents health and sanity. Also remember to continuously mix them up so as not to get predictable. -If someone does get through your barrage of Tiger Shots, knock them back with a Tiger Crush or Tiger Uppercut. -You should have plenty of time to charge you gauge in SNK groove if you keep knocking your opponent away and it should charge on its own in Capcom groove if you're throwing Tiger Shots like you should be. -With normal Sagat let them get close when your gauge is charged up. The Tiger Destroyer has almost no start up delay, great priority, and a huge window of invincibility at the start so use and abuse this move when you can. -For EX Sagat, try goading your opponent into a fireball duel and throw out a Tiger Cannon in the middle of it. The Tiger Cannon will eat the other projectile and hit your opponent. -Unlike the in the Alpha games the standing HK is no longer an effective anti-air move and while the Tiger Crush can usually get the job done I'd stick with the Tiger Uppercut for your anti-air needs. -The Tiger Crush works great for stopping rushing opponents or foward moving attacks(e.g. Burning Knuckle, Hurricane Kick). -Sagat is not a combo machine like Ken. He instead relies on single powerful blows to get the job done, but if you have the run option on it becomes a bit easier and you can try a few listed above but I wouldn't recommend it. -NEVER throw out his supers out of the blue as they can be blocked or rolled through fairly easily. If you're not using them to counter attacks then use them in combos(It doesn't have to be real complex combos either. Something as simple as LP, Tiger Destroyer works just fine). -All in all try and play defensively. Keep you opponent away and if they get close let them make the first move and counter it. The following tips are offered by mike a: -Sagat as you said does play good long range but he is best when the enemy is in the corner. From that position you can easily combo a tiger genocide out of a wp uppercut or out of a j.hk d wpx2 tiger uppercut, genocide.:) -You can lob a free guard impact fireball every time you throw(i.e. throw then shoot a low tiger shot, this forces people to take the block, chips their health AND gives you time to move. The following tips are offered by SiLeNT J: -Sagat relies on his Heavy attacks to win. -Poke with the c.fierce, the s.fierce, and the s.roundhouse. -If you time the s.fierce right, you can stop your opponent from going airborne. -The standing HK has HUGE range like Yamazaki's HK's, and his c.fierces good for closer-range battles. -The tiger destroyer leaves Sagat open if he misses, and is easy to roll through. -Tiger shots are not Sagat's best friend, but infact one of his worst enemies. They should only be used from accross the screen. Use them only to catch an opponent that jumps back before they land, or the HP version to stop an opponent from getting too far off the ground, from across the screen. If used for anything else they'll be rolled through, and you'll be punished. -Sagat really doesn't need his supers, and the only special he really needs is his tiger uppercut to take care of jump-ins. =========================================================================== - Section 7 - Partners ---------------------------------------------------- =========================================================================== Even the best of us need help sometimes and Sagat is no exception. Sagat is a ratio 3 character meaning he can only be paired up with one ratio 1 character. The following is a list of possible partners: -Sakura -Cammy -Dhalsim -Blanka -Benimaru -King -Vice -Yuri Ideally you should choose a parter that excels in the areas Sagat is lacking in, namely speed and comboability(is that even a real word). Here's a few example teams: -Team Borderline Public Nudity: Sagat and Cammy -Team Fireball Goodness: Sagat and EX Sakura -Team "We asked for just a little off the top!": Sagat and Dhalsim Cammy excels in both lacking areas. I personally suck with Cammy but you're welcome to try. Sakura and Yuri make great partners for Sagat(especially EX Sakura). I don't suggest Dhalsim. He has range but lacks the badly needed speed and just doesn't work well with Sagat. Experiment and you'll find who you thinks works well with Sagat. One last team I want to mention: -Team Muay Thai Extreme: Sagat and King!!! The best team in the game!!! ============================================================================ - Section 8 - Vs. Sagat ---------------------------------------------------- ============================================================================ Beating a skilled Sagat player is easier said then done. The best way to beat Sagat is to get close but not too close. Try to stay within jumping distance but out of range of the Tiger Uppercut, Tiger Crush and especially the Tiger Destroyer. Remember these moves have very little startup and huge priority. Take advantage of the recovery time of his moves. All his normal and special moves except the Tiger Crush have slow recovery so take full advantage of that to rush in and hit him. Generally to beat him, let him make the first move and react accordingly. ============================================================================ = Setion 9 - Miscellaneous ------------------------------------------------- ============================================================================ COLORS The last four are hidden colors and must be bought through the secret shop option. ___________________________________________________________________ |A |White trunks |Red trim |white tape |dark skin | |----|--------------|---------------|---------------|------------| |B |Lime trunks |Gold trim |white tape |light skin | |----|--------------|---------------|---------------|------------| |X |Purple trunks |Gold trim |white tape |light skin | |----|--------------|---------------|---------------|------------| |Y |Purple trunks |Red trim |white tape |dark skin | |----|--------------|---------------|---------------|------------| |A+B |Yellow trunks |Dark Blue trim |offwhite tape |medium skin | |----|--------------|---------------|---------------|------------| |X+Y |Red trunks |Dark Blue trim |offwhite tape |medium skin | |----|--------------|---------------|---------------|------------| |A+X |Black trunks |Gold trim |white tape |dark skin | |----|--------------|---------------|---------------|------------| |B+Y |Yellow trunks |Red trim |white tape |dark skin | |____|______________|_______________|_______________|____________| =========================================================================== ANIMATION Entrance Pose: -Sagat laughs softly then gets into his fighting stance.
