In the next version I will finish off the "Tag Location" section, character descriptions and anything else which needs doing. 0.02 10/12/2000 Added Trick section, finished tag locations, character descriptions and graffiti controls. Added graphic at the top. 1.00 07/08/2001 Added tag #97, more detail on getting JET (i.e. how to get JET on each level including Fight or Flight!), more details on JET Technique, JET Crush and JET Graffiti. Also improved layout. Sorry for the delay! I lost my save game file to a corrupted memory card and haven't played JGR since yesterday! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- *NB all point boundaries are approximate as I do not know EXACTLY what the score you need for JET is on each level. Sorry if you find them to be incorrect. If you want, email me the correct score and I will update it and recognize your help in the 'Shouts' section. ---------------- 1. Game Elements ---------------- Red arrows - these are tag locations which you must tag to complete the level. See "Paint in the a**" for more detail. Green arrows - these are bonus tags which you don't need to complete a level. Although they may help in getting JET, especially on the later levels. Blue arrows - These show escape routes to safe locations in a level. Once you escape from the cops they are reset back to their default locations. Speech bubbles - These show what size of graffiti you will do when near a red or green arrow. It also shows if you are being chased. An exclamation mark shows someone is chasing you. If there is a star shaped bubble it shows there is someone firing at you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- 2. Enemies ---------- Most enemies can't be stopped but a few can. Those which can be killed or made stationary have green arrows on them. Enemies who are susceptible to tagging are: Captain Onishima - Tag him and he will stand about waving his arms in the air. This lasts until you escape via a blue arrow. Helicopters - Tag these and they will plummet to the ground and blow up. Golden Rhino Assassins - Tag them several times to render them useless. There are many other enemies in the game who are: Police men - these basic enemies run after you and hold you, to slow you down. Just jump around, or grind to shake them loose. Police dogs - they are the same as the cops, except they bite you. Motorbike squad - very annoying, these try to run you over when you tag certain locations (listen for their sirens). Police cars - these also try to hit you, but usually miss and fall off the road (in Kogane-cho). SWAT team - they have tear gas which they fire at you. Tanks - Fire big shells at you, but they are very slow and rarely cause trouble. Para-troopers - They drop out of the sky WITH MACHINE GUNS! Can be very nasty as they usually move in big groups. Assassin number 5 - An Egyptian guy who whips you, can get to be a pain in the a** (geddit!). Golden Rhino - Some have clubs and are similar to the cops, others have machine guns and are like para-troopers. Assassin number 6 - Throws electric charge down the cables, a real b****** when you're grinding, as you fall right off. Golem - these are huge dumb chumps. Wont attack unless you hit them or stand right infront of them. Flamethrower squad - very nasty, have a tendency to burn you when you are finishing an xtra large tag. Suicide squad - try to jump on you and explode themselves! Usually miss thought. Jet-pack team - they fly about the place with machineguns, these guys mean business and are very hard to avoid. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- 3. Character Descriptions ------------------------- Power is the amount of life the character has. Technique is how good they are at skating and tricks etc. Graffiti is how talented they are with a spray-can in their hand. (Also the better they are, the more difficult it is to do their tags. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Beat power |||||||| technique |||||| graffiti ||||||| Can capacity 20 Unlocks tags 1, 35, 69 Beat is the leader of the GG's (For what reason I can't work out, he's a stupid little c---). He is the character you start with, and also the one you use in the tutorial section. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pots (the dog) power || technique ||||||||| graffiti ||| Can capacity 7 Pots is a very secret character, you need all the others first before you can get him. Its worth it though just to see him! He is by far the funniest character, but he is much shorter than the others so he doesn't collect all the spray cans easily, you have to jump for them. Although his power rating seems very low he is infact very resistant to damage. See later for details of getting him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mew power |||| technique |||||||| graffiti ||||||| Can capacity 20 Unlocks tags 7, 41, 75 Mew is a good skater but she is pretty weak physically. She looks like someone attacked her with fluorescent paint. She is a good character to use when racing others. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Slate power ||||||||| technique ||||| graffiti |||||| Can capacity 40 Unlocks tags 10, 44, 78 Can be very useful as he has high health and can hold 40 cans. He also has medium graffiti difficulty so he is good to use on a level you are having difficulty completing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Poison Jam power |||||||||| technique |||| graffiti ||||||| Can capacity 40 Unlocks tags 31, 65, 99 Poison Jam are similar to Slate but they are slightly worse at skating, although you probably wouldn't notice the difference. To counter-act this, thought, they have slightly more health. See later for details of getting him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Noise Tank power |||||||| technique ||||| graffiti ||||||||| Can capacity 50 Unlocks tags 32, 66, 100 Noise Tank provide a very good character, 50 can capacity, decent health, medium graffiti and average technique. He is a very good character, and he looks quite cool too. See later for details of getting him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Love Shockers power |||| technique |||||||||| graffiti ||||| Can capacity 30 Unlocks tags 33, 67, 101 "Uki-Uki-Waku-Waku"!. The Love Shockers are VERY good skaters, so use them to get all the tags which need a lot of skill to reach. They are, however, very weak and not much cop at graffiti. See later for details of getting her. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gum power |||| technique ||||| graffiti |||||||||| Can capacity 15 Unlocks tags 2,36,70 Fairly good for getting JET but you probably won't use her much when you get her, as she has very little health and her graffiti is hard to do. Anyway Yo-Yo is better. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Piranha power ||||||| technique |||| graffiti |||||||||| Can capacity 15 Unlocks tags 5, 39, 73 A very good character to get JET with as she has pretty high health. I would say she was the best for getting JET, but she looks like a 70's reject. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Garam power |||||||| technique |||||| graffiti ||||| Can capacity 25 Unlocks tags 6,40, 74 Garam looks a bit funky but he is actually quite good. His only let down is that he doesn't have very good graffiti. Although this makes him good for beginners. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yo-Yo power |||| technique |||||||| graffiti |||||||||| Can capacity 15 Unlocks tags 9, 43, 77 Yo-Yo is the best of the regular character for getting JET ratings as he has really high scoring graffiti. He also looks like Elton John (I remember when rock was young . . .). ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Goji power ||||||||| technique |||| graffiti |||||||||| Can capacity 30 Unlocks tags 34, 68, 102 Although Goji Has a big health bar he actually suffers a lot more damage than the other characters. Goji is THE best for getting JET, as he has good graffiti and can hold 30 cans! See later for details of getting him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tab power |||||| technique ||||||| graffiti |||| Can capacity 30 Unlocks tags 3, 37, 71 Looks quite cool (apart from his huge lips), and he has simple graffiti. He is probably the best character to use when you get started. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cube power |||||| technique |||||| graffiti ||||||| Can capacity 25 Unlocks tags 8, 42, 76 KILL THE GOTH! Only joking, she is one of my favorite characters, as she is very cool. I like using her but she is pretty much useless when trying to get JET. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Combo power |||||||||| technique ||||| graffiti ||||||| Can capacity 20 Unlocks tags 4, 38, 72 Oh yes! He is the daddy. If he can still skate, tag, and do tricks with a ghetto blaster on his arm he has to be good, right? Well, yeah he is cool, but he is a pretty average character, nothing special really. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------- 4.Playing Tips -------------- * I recommend that when you first play the game you use characters with the easiest graffiti, otherwise you will either mess up your tags, or get attacked half way through them. * Never tag in safe places before all cops etc. have arrived as you will just make it more difficult to get tags where the cops patrol. For example don't tag the roofs until you have tagged all the walls at ground level. * Getting JET - There are two ways to get a JET rating on the levels. The first is using a so called "infinite grind". This is a grind that could theoretically go on forever, and it can be used to get the target scores for a stage. BUT, this takes ages as tricks give you a very small effort:points ratio. I will therefore not discuss this method any further, if this interests you then look at the many faqs which cover it at "www.gamefaqs.com" A much better way for getting JET is to learn the levels, get the tags in the order that this walkthrough suggests AND use a character with a HIGH graffiti level. This can be difficult, but with practice you will have JET on ever stage. * Don't try to get JET on your first go, it's a much better idea to just complete the game first to see all the story. Once you have completed the game you can save it, and play again with all the characters you have gained available from the start. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------- 5. Tricks and stones may break my bones --------------------------------------- Skating - Hold forwards to skate, use left and right to direct your character. Dashing - Hold the R-trigger to perform a dash (It only lasts a few seconds). Breaking - When you are skating forwards press back to perform a dead stop. Grinding - to perform a grind just jump onto any rail or thin wall etc. And your character will automatically do a grind. Air tricks - These include Mistys, Shiftys, and Kites. Just jump in the air when you are on a grind (you need to be going quite fast). Spin tricks - To do 360, 720, even 1260 degree variations of trick just use a half-pipe. Skate backwards - to skate backwards simply press backwards, then forwards when you are skating. Twist - This makes your character do a twist in the air before turning around. To do it jump as you are performing the "skate backwards" move. Wall ride - To do a wall-ride simply gain a bit of speed and jump diagonally into a wall. If you jump off the wall again, you will do a trick and propel your forwards with great velocity and height. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------- 6. Paint in the a** ------------------- There are 3 different levels of graffiti in this game. They are easy, medium, and hard. For small tags you just need to pull the L-trigger near the red arrow, but for large and xtra-large there are certain movements of the analogue stick, that you need to do. The first 3 movements are the same as the large, so these are done before what is listed as "xtra large". The key shows what each movement actually entails. Tutorial Mode ---------------- This is a training mode to get you used to the game physics of "Jet Grind Radio". There are 30 different lessons. Just do everything you are told to and you will have a good head-start in this game. If you are struggling to do any of the moves then see the "Tricks and Stones may break my bones" section. New Game ----------- The gameplay of "Jet Grind Radio" is split two ways; Firstly is playing through and completing the levels, but also you have to complete challenges set by characters to gain them in your gang. These challenges are either a 'monkey-see, monkey-do' kind of affair or a race of some sort. If you mess up you can retry as many times as you like. In this guide I give a specific order to get the tags in, for each level. You don't have to follow these orders, but I have tried and tested them and I believe they are the best path to take. 9.01 Gum's Challenges --------------------- Challenge 1 - All you have to do is skate forwards, turn right and then jump on top of the car in front of you. (If you mess this up you should stop playing here!) Challenge 2 - Just skate forwards and grind along the rail, then jump off at the other end. Challenge 3 - Skate forwards, picking up the spray paint on the way, and spray the two taxis. Then skate past them and jump onto the rail collecting more spray paint. Jump onto the rail in front of you and spray the car and lorry as you grind past. Gum has now joined you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.02 Tab's Challenges --------------------- Challenge 1 - Skate forwards and jump over the gaps until you reach the red arrow (make sure you collected some spray paint). Next press L-trigger to start spraying and follow the on-screen directions to tag the wall. Challenge 2 - Skate up behind a car to grab onto it, and then ride in to near the top of the hill where there is some spray-paint (press back to let go of the car). Then skate back down the hill and tag the red arrow down the right hand turning at the bottom of the hill. Tag and grind for maximum kudos. Challenge 3 - Simply skate forwards and grind the rail jumping over the pillar in the middle. Then jump onto the stair rail and ride it round jumping off onto the bus shelter at the end. Now Tab is a GG as well! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------- |CHAPTER 1 GG| -------------- 2.03 Shibuya GG --------------- POINTS REQUIRED FOR JET 30,000 NUMBER OF TAGS SMALL - 4 LARGE - 5 X-LARGE - 1 You start off on top of the bus shelter, the first thing you need to do is fill up with spray cans. Either collect the ones lying about or steal them off the Love Shockers. First spray the three buses parked in the shelters, these are all large size and require 3 cans each (unless you mess up). When you have finished the third one the cops will arrive. Then move onto the two taxis, and then the car and the lorry (next to the green grind rail). By now the captain will have arrived, tag his back if you want! Just make sure he doesn't shoot you. Make sure you have full capacity of spray cans, then get up onto the ledges. To do this, either use the lorry as a ramp at one end, or jump on the two vans at the other end. Once you're up there, the cops can't get you! Now tag the three red arrows (there are two large and one xtra-large [which takes 7 cans] tag to perform). That's it you've completed the first level! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- You now have three choices of levels, in each part of Tokyo-to. I will deal with each part of Tokyo at a time. Shibuya-cho ----------- 2.04 Love Trap -------------- POINTS REQUIRED FOR JET 40,000 NUMBER OF TAGS SMALL - 5 LARGE - 4 X-LARGE - 4 You start off in the sewer, the best thing to do is turn around collect the spray cans and go up the stairs. Watch out though as the cops and even Captain Onishima are already here. Once you reach the top turn left and jump over the side into the park. Tag the captain to make him leave you alone, and then tag the large red arrow on the floor. Now fill up on spray-paint (You need a minimum of 14 cans but more is recommended in case you mess-up) and grind up the spiral slide and jump over the edge onto the unfinished road. Head right towards the crane and grind along it. Once you reach the other side there are 2 xtra-large tags waiting for you. Once you've sprayed them drop down to the sewers and climb back up the stairs. Jump into the park again and then proceed down the street and turn left near the end of the level, DON'T TAG THE TWO RED ARROWS ON THE WAY! You will see one large and one xtra large tag, spray them both. Watch out for the motorcycle units! When you finish the second one the SWAT team will show up. Now head back the way you came and tag the two large arrows you missed. Now head back to the park and spray the five small tags. There are two at each end next to grind rails, and one on a board to the right of the park (as you face the elephant slide). Go back up the slide and head left and tag the large red arrow for your grand finale (no-one will attack you here!). Phew! That's another level in the bag. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.05 Love Attack ---------------- POINTS REQUIRED FOR JET 30,000 NUMBER OF TAGS 30 This level can only be played when all the others in the chapter have been completed. This is a boss level, tag each Love Shocker 10 times to complete the level. The best place to catch the Love Shockers is when they are grinding, or when they are skating up a hill. If you can get behind them on a long rail you can stop them in one go! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kogane-cho ------------ 9.06 The Monster of Kogane -------------------------- If you play this level before "Benten Boogie" the GG's dog "Pots" will be dog-napped! (and later returned, but he will make cow noises). POINTS REQUIRED FOR JET 30,000 NUMBER OF TAGS SMALL - 9 LARGE - 2 X-LARGE - 1 Head up the stairs on the left and then turn around. Dash and then do a wall ride and jump off to get across the gap. Alternatively, go up the stairs turn left cross the jetty and turn left again into the house. Smash through all the walls and doors to get to the other side. Either way head to the bottom left of the map and tag the xtra-large red arrow on the wall. Then head across the bridge behind you and tag the large arrow around the corner (there will be a member of Poison Jam there). Carry along and take another left, tag another large arrow at the next corner. Onishima will now arrive with police dogs. Just make your way around the square tagging all the small arrows. After you have tagged five more, helicopters will turn up. Finish of the small tags (4 in total) to complete this fairly easy level. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- After you have completed "The Monster of Kogane" you will be challenged by Garam. 9.07 Garam's Challenges ----------------------- Challenge 1 - Dash forwards and jump into the wall, perform a wall ride and jump off to land on the other side. Challenge 2 - Dash forward jump and land on the fence. Grind around the corner and jump off onto the roof in front of you. Challenge 3 - Again, dash forwards and jump onto the rail to your right. Jump the gap, and land on the left hand rail. Jump off this to the left and land on the other rail, jump off this and wall ride to your left. This is a pretty tricky challenge, good luck. Garam is now a GG! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.08 No. 540 ------------ POINTS REQUIRED FOR JET 40,000 NUMBER OF TAGS SMALL - 9 LARGE - 2 X-LARGE - 2 You start the level at the top of the dump. Ignore the tags at the top, and just collect at least 14 cans (get some of Poison Jam). Then jump onto the roof of the big building and tag the 2 xtra large tags. (If you ever run out of paint just head to the building, its full of the stuff!) Then drop down and tag the large arrow on the ground. There will now be paratroopers about, so watch out. Next, turn around and head for the 3 small tags on the wall. Getting these is fairly difficult, you need to be good at the wall ride to get all three. To get them dash up to the wall and jump onto it, tagging the first one, then jump again and get the second and third tags (blimey!). Now get out of the pit (use the car pile) and head left. Run past the troops and tag the two small arrows on the wall. Watch out! There's choppers about! Carry on to the left and get another 2 tags using a wall ride. Then turn around, and head for the start of the level. Tag the large arrow, and then the 2 small ones to finish this off. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.09 Kogane Circus ------------------ POINTS REQUIRED FOR JET 30,000 NUMBER OF TAGS 30 This is a boss level, tag each member of Poison Jam 10 times to complete the level. The best place to get them is when they are grinding in the middle of the level (see map below). Alternatively just follow them everywhere they go and tag when you can. Beware! On this level it is very easy to fall into the water (if you can call it water, just look at the colour!). If you get heavily damaged there is a large health can where Poison Jam start the level. ____________________ _____| | | ||||____| | | | |________ _____________ |__________ ___________ | <-- Get poison Jam when they are | | grinding on these rails. | | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Benten-cho ---------- 9.10 Benten Boogie ------------------ If you play this level before "The monster of Kogane" the GG's base will be invaded by frogs! POINTS REQUIRED FOR JET 45,000 NUMBER OF TAGS SMALL - 8 LARGE - 6 X-LARGE - 2 You start of on the roofs. The first thing to do is find the xtra-large tag in the streets (not the one on the roofs). If you look at the map, it is the one on the right-most point. Then tag the large red arrow, which is the left-most tag on the map. Next spray all the small tags at ground level (6 in total). After the 2nd one the cops will show up (so be quick!). Next get the two small tags by the drain pipes (top and bottom of map) you need to grind to get these. Afterwards get the large tag near one of the drain pipes (at the top of the map) There should be a Noise Tank tagging it. Then jump onto the roof behind you and tag the four large arrows at each corner of the block of buildings (watch out for the gaps!). After you tag the first one Onishima turns up with a SWAT team, try to avoid ground-level. After you've tagged the 4 corners head to the bottom right of the map and tag the large red arrow. Now head for the center of the map, you should see a little door-way It is under a big neon sign) with a set of stairs leading up it. Make sure you have at least 3 cans and go up the stairs to tag the last arrow at the top. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- After you've completed "Benten Boogie" you will be challenged by Mew (when you access the Tokyo map). 9.11 Mew's Challenges --------------------- Challenge 1 - Skate forwards and jump onto the rail, then jump off again onto the train below, Simple. It doesn't matter if you hurt yourself either. Challenge 2 - Turn right and head up the stairs, carry on until you get to the roof. Jump onto the spiral and grind down it, jumping of at the end and onto the drain pipe (This can be a little tricky). Then jump off the end and land on the roof. Challenge 3 - Skate towards the ramp and grind up the side of it. Jump off and land on the correct cable (the third one, this is very difficult to do!), then grind along it before jumping through the gate. If you are having difficulty doing this then try my alternative method: SKATE up the ramp and get onto the center (use a cable to grind to it). Then turn round until your facing the right cable (you should see the gate in the distance) and grind your way to victory! Mew will now join your krew. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.12 Graffiti High ------------------ POINTS REQUIRED FOR JET 30,000 NUMBER OF TAGS SMALL - 14 LARGE - 3 X-LARGE - 2 You start on top of the train, first drop to the tracks and collect some cans. Once you are full, head to the right of the map (a train should pass you on the right hand side. You should come across a door on each side of the track. The left one is locked so head through the one on the right. Immediately head up the ramp and get to the center circle (see Mew's challenge 3). Grind the cable which heads towards the xtra large red arrow (There is a Noise Tank tagging it). Tag this xtra large 'un and jump onto the bowling roof, and then onto the telephone cable to get to another Noise Tank and a large tag. When you've finished drop down to the floor and start tagging the small red arrows near the grind rails. After the first one para-troopers will drop down. When you've got all 8, head up the ramped lorry and jump through the bill-board. Skate until you reach the street on the other side. Then grind on the left hand rail getting the three tags on the way. By now you will have tanks after you! After you tag the third small arrow turn slightly to the left and tag the large arrow on the wall facing you. Then head down the street on your left and tag the xtra large arrow. Turn around and tag the large arrow on the wall facing you. Again go to the right and Grind the wall on the left, tagging the 2 small arrows as you go past them. As you come out of this side alley grind the rail on the right to get the last tag of the level. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.13 Noise Reduction -------------------- POINTS REQUIRED FOR JET 30,000 NUMBER OF TAGS 30 This is a boss level just tag each Noise Tank 10 times to finish the level. The easiest way to get them all is to wait for them at the stairs where they are at the start of the level (see diagram). If you wait at these stairs you can surprise them from behind and get them several times before they run off. You should still chase after them to tag them, try to get behind them on a grind. If you do you can eliminate one member in a matter of seconds. ___________ ____________ |$ ____|||| ||||______ $| |-| |-| |-| |-| |-| |-| __________ ________|*|_| _______&| * wait here ||||____ |||| £ where the Noise Tanks run to |$| $ where the Noise tanks stop and wait | | ________| |___ ||||____ _ |||_______ |&______| |_________&| ------------------------------------------------------------------------- After you have finished off the Noise Tanks, Yo-Yo will challenge you. Yo-Yo's Challenge ----------------- Race - This is quite a difficult race to win, but there are two shortcuts that you can take. When the race starts follow Yo-Yo along the track and into the circular area then head straight for the lorry and jump up through the barrier (instead of following Yo-Yo who takes a slightly longer route. Then skate through the street and turn left across one of the walk-ways. You should then come out in front of the subway, go straight down it rather than follow Yo-Yo's route. When you come out of the subway turn slightly to the left, go down the street, and turn left up the small set of stairs. When you get to the top grind down the long spiral, collecting spray paint on the way. You need to jump from the spiral onto the drain pipe. Jump off and tag the red arrow at the end to win. Yo-Yo has now joined your ever-growing gang. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you have finished Love "Attack" its onto the next chapter. ------------------------ |Chapter 2 Combo & Cube| ------------------------ In this chapter you can only play as Combo or Cube. However once you have completed the game at least once you can use any character on this level. As soon as you try to access the Tokyo map you will be challenged by Combo and Cube. You cannot decline their challenge like you can with the other characters. Also you have to do their challenges even if you already have them. 15.15 Cube's Challenge ---------------------- In this challenge you actually play as Cube and are challenged by Gum. All you have to do is skate forward, jump on the rail, grind it, then jump over the road and land on the rail, finally jump onto the platform to gain Cube as one of your members. This one is all about timing and positioning, it will probably take you several goes! 15.16 Combo's Challenge ----------------------- Race - In this challenge you play as Combo and have to race Beat through the streets of Shibuya-cho. There is only one shortcut in this level, so you just need to follow Beat for most of the way. You start on the top of the bus stop. when the race starts skate forward and head down the road into the 2D section and take the first left-hand turn. when you come into the next section turn left along the pavement and jump down into the sewer at the first opportunity. If Beat is in front of you he will stop and wait by the stairs that lead to the park area. Once you are at the stairs carry along the pipe until you see a gate, (you need to be in front of Beat by now or you will probably lose) jump up through it and go straight across the road rather than skating down the hill (as Beat does). Grind the first rail to get some paint then skate down the rest of the hill and spray the red arrow (it is in the same place as Tab's second challenge). Combo and Cube are now GG, and they have got a story to tell you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Two month's ago . . . In chapter 2 you are in for a treat . . . . . . you can listen to Jurassic 5! 15.17 Bantam St. ---------------- POINTS REQUIRED FOR JET 40,000 NUMBER OF TAGS SMALL - 6 LARGE - 7 X-LARGE- 3 You start on top of the Petrol station, first drop down to the ground and get into the small skate park to fill up with spray-paint. Once you are full to the brim head back up to the top of the petrol station. Don't spray the xtra-large tag, but jump over to the next building and tag the 3 large tags on the bill-boards. Make sure you have at least 13 cans and turn around, jumping back on to the petrol station. Turn to face the train tracks, dash forwards and jump onto them (watch out for the trains!). Then cross over them and jump onto the building tops on the other side. Tag the xtra-large and 2 large tags over here. Then jump back over to the petrol station to tag the xtra large tag. Assassin number 5 will now arrive, so watch out ("don't get too close he might attack!") Turn around and jump onto the Hexagon sign, ride it, and jump off to tag the opposite wall. When you land on the floor head down the alley. There are 5 small tags on the wall to the left (opposite the quarter pipe area) you will need to wall ride to get most of these. It is nigh on impossible to get all of them in one go, so just turn around and get any you miss. After you have these 3 head back out onto the street and tag the remaining 2 large tags. Now jump onto the train tracks and get the last xtra large tag to finish off the level. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.18 Grind Square ----------------- POINTS REQUIRED FOR JET 50,000 NUMBER OF TAGS SMALL - 8 LARGE - 3 X-LARGE - 3 Head left from where you start and jump into the elevator. Head left when you get to the top of the building. Grind the wall and jump off onto the flashing cable. Jump off onto the roof with the xtra large red arrow and tag it. Get to the ground, make sure you have at least 14 cans and go up the elevator on the left hand side of the map (the one which touches the floor). Head right out of the lift, and when you get to the small set of stairs, turn around and grind the wall, jumping on to the cable at the end (sound familiar). Jump off to tag the two xtra large arrows. Now get back on the left hand lift and head RIGHT up the stairs. Tag the large arrow on the wall opposite you. Next go back to the top of the stairs and grind along the wall towards the U.S. flag. You will automatically grind onto it. Jump off at the end and tag the golden rhino with a large piece of graffiti. Now skate down the cable on either side of the building and jump to the big statue in the middle. Tag the 2 small arrows and jump to the floor. Go up the left hand lift (again!) and tag the 3 rhinos to the right (up the stairs). By now you will have choppers to deal with as well. The regular goons have now left so it is safe to tag the large arrow in the top right hand corner (on the ground). Now head up the right hand lift (the one slightly off the ground) and tag the 2 rhinos to the left. Now for the last one, grind the rail next to the rhinos and jump off at the end towards the wall. Pull the L trigger as you get near the arrow (don't worry if you fall its the end of the level!). Chapter 2 complete! Its a bit short but I think Bantam Street is the best level in the game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- |Chapter 3 Golden Rhinos| ------------------------- Again you have a choice of levels to tackle so I will describe them in order of difficulty. 9.19 Shibuya-cho: Explosion --------------------------- POINTS REQUIRED FOR JET 70,000 NUMBER OF TAGS SMALL - 12 LARGE - 8 X-LARGE - 3 You start by the two large green arrows. First drop down into the sewer area, and head up the stairs to get to the incomplete highway. Now jump over the wall into the park. In this level you need to watch out for various things exploding (this happens quite often). First tag the large arrow on the floor, then fill yourself up on paint. Leave the 2 rhinos to later, and head down the street tagging the 2 large arrows on each side of the road. Then carry on down the street to tag the xtra large arrow under the highway. Now turn around and head for the big hill (where you have to beat the Love Shockers). When you arrive in the 2D area head to the left of the screen and take the first road heading up the screen to get there. Go up the hill and take the first left (there is red sidewalk).Tag the xtra large arrow and then the large one behind you. Now go up the set of stairs, turn left and tag the xtra large arrow infront of you. Now head for the bus terminal. Go back down the hill and into the 2D area now head right and you should come out into the bus terminal. Now tag the 3 large arrows on the buses. When you have finished the last one the suicide squad will show up, don't hang about. Now get onto the blue ledges (use the sloped lorry). There is 1 large and 3 small red arrows up there, so make sure you have enough paint. Once you have these, head back to the hill. There are now helicopters in the 2D area! Once you are there, head straight across the road and tag the 3 small tags there. Skate up this hill and grind a rail on the other side to tag another small arrow. Still carry on up this hill, and get another small tag back on the other side of the road. Now turn around and head to the main road. Skate down it until you come across a grind rail near the bottom (This is in parallel to the road). Grind this rail and jump off to land on the roof where there is 2 rhinos to tag. Now go back to the park and tag the last 2 rhinos. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- When you next try to play a stage you are challenged by Piranha. 9.20 Piranha ------------ Challenge 1 - Skate forwards and grind the rail on your left. Jump off at the end, and land on the rail on your right. Grind to the end to complete this task. Challenge 2 - Skate up the side of the half-pipe and jump near the top to perform a trick. Pull the L-trigger in the air to tag the wall. Carry along the pipe and repeat this twice more to finish this challenge. Note, the places to be tagged are near the spray paint. Challenge 3 - Skate forwards until you are in line with the buses, turn to the right and jump from roof to roof until you get to the big video board, easy (if you have enough speed)! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.21 Benten-Cho: Benten Burning ------------------------------- POINTS REQUIRED FOR JET 50,000 NUMBER OF TAGS SMALL - 11 LARGE - 4 X-LARGE - 4 When you get control of your character head forwards past the Golden Rhino men and jump into the boarded-over passage. When you are in the circular area, head up to the middle circle. Face the bowling building and grind the cable to get to the first xtra large tag. Grind the telephone cable to get the large tag at the other end. Now get the 2 rhinos by the subway entrance, and then head back to where you started (through the passage). Now get the xtra large tag at the other end of the area (behind the big Golem). Be quick as there will be Golden Rhinos trying to grab you! Now turn around and head left, over the black car, and get to the air-walk area. Make sure you fill up on paint first as there are no cans in the next area! Head forwards and get another xtra large tag (guarded by another Golem). Go up the stairs infront of you (as you face the top of the map). Turn around and tag the rhino (another Golem is there!!!) Get the rhino on the other side of the road (Beware it is a large tag). There is another 1 large tag here, and 3 small ones. They are on the other air walk, in each corner. After you tag the second one the flame-thrower squad show up. When you have tagged all this area, head for the subway (it is marked on the map below as a *). _____________ / ___ __ \ | | | | | | | |___| |_*| | \_____________/ When you get to the end of the passage head left and tag the large red arrow on the wall, watch out for the troops you need to be quick! Skate round the whole street so that they chase you and head back to where you where to tag the xtra large arrow. Now get onto the roofs and tag the 4 rhinos on the corners of the middle block of buildings. Now drop down to the floor and go up the stairs to the big spiral (remember, if not see the guide for Benten Boogie). Grind down the spiral and get the last rhino on the roof below. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.22 Kogane-Cho: Fight or Flight -------------------------------- POINTS REQUIRED FOR JET 70,000 NUMBER OF TAGS SMALL - 17 LARGE - 5 X-LARGE - 2 As soon as you start turn around and head down the path, towards the dump. Go in the warehouse and go through the other side to head down to the sewer. You need to get to the other side with at least 14 cans and without being noticed by the Golden Rhino over there. If you did it tag the 2 xtra large arrows, if not run about until they loose you. Now head down the left hand tunnel and go through another one right infront of you. When you get to the end you should be in the residential area. Now head up the stairs and get to the other side of the gap. Jump onto the roofs (there is a car you can use to get up, by jumping on it) and get the 2 large tags there. Then get the 4 small ones. After you get the last one Assassin number 2 turns up with his cronies. Drop to the floor and get the rhino (its on the lower level). Now get onto the globe thing and tag a small arrow on the back of it. Get back onto solid ground and drop down the man-hole (its on the upper level) into the sewer. When you jump out the end of the big pipe get the 2 small tags on the side of the tunnel then head to the middle and drop down the trap door, to get another rhino. Now get to the other side of the sewer and tag the two small arrows in the tunnel. Head back to the dump and get the large tag in the pit, then the 2 rhinos on the roof of the warehouse. Now climb to the top of the dump and get the large tag there. Now go back down the path you used at the start of the level and get back to the rooftops. Tag the 4 small arrows as you go down the slope, and finish with a large tag on the rhino in the corner at the bottom of the hill. If you fall down at any point there is a car to climb on at the bottom of the hill. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- After you have finished this rock-hard level you will be challenged by Slate. 9.23 Slate ---------- Race - This is a race through the streets of Kogane, its not that difficult, despite being the last character to challenge you. You start at the bottom of the stairs and the first thing to do is go into the sewers. When you get to the bottom get to the other side by grinding across the gap via the rails. Head to the Kogane dump (you can't go straight to the roof tops where the tag is, because that route is blocked off). Once you get to the warehouse skate outside and jump outta that pit. Head to the top of the dump and exit through the gate. Head up the path and when you get to the end jump onto the roofs. Just carry on, collecting paint on the way and tag the arrow before Slate does. There are no real shortcuts, but Slate is pretty slow anyway. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.24 Benten-Cho: Behind the Mask -------------------------------- POINTS REQUIRED FOR JET 30,000 NUMBER OF TAGS 30 This is another boss level. You have to tag Poison Jam again! But, this time they are under mind control by Goji. . . So, anyway this is around the streets of Benten. The best advice I can give is to skate behind them and paint away, as there are not really any easy places to tag them. But, Poison Jam are pretty slow so it is quite easy to catch them up with a fast player. If they are going round the outside you can take shortcuts through the side roads, if you need to catch them up. Watch out though as they often go onto the roofs. After you have finished this level there is only the final boss to go! You don't get a score for this level so you can't, and don't need to, get JET on this level. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.25 Grind City: Final Groove ----------------------------- This level is on top of the Rokkaku building, which is actually a giant turntable. The first thing to do is fill up on paint then pick one of the 4 points to go and tag. All the tags are xtra-large, but the 4 points are of 2 types. One is a long pipe you need to grind to reach the arrow, and the other is a series of cogs you have to jump across. When you reach the arrows to tag them a giant rhino will appear and breath fire at you!!! If he hits you just start tagging again as you will be temporarily invincible. When you finish tagging head back to the turntable before the platform collapses. Everytime you get one of the tags the record spins faster, making it harder to jump off. When you get the forth tag and have got back on the turntable. Things start to explode and Goji's plans are ruined. All you have to do now is tag Goji on the forehead (The ultimate insult!). Find the rail which has been knocked down and grind up it, then tag that evil b****** right between the eyes. Once you have completed the last level and watched the credits you can save the game and play through again with all the characters, and tags you have collected. JET Crush, JET Technique, and JET Graffiti will also be unlocked for every level (including those in Grind City). ------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------- 10. Getting JET --------------- To get JET on most of the levels all you need to do is tag all the arrows (including the green ones) and do it quickly. Also you need to make sure you have as much health left as possible (to get more points). When you tag a green arrow, it doesn't affect the police (or Golden Rhino) so you can tag several arrows without having the police chasing you. Make sure you get all the xtra-large green tags as these give you over 5000 points a pop (if you use someone like Yo-Yo). If you are on a level with a lot of small tags these can be helpful to. 8 small tags will get you a similar amount of points, and probably in less time too. However the most important point is not to mess up when you are tagging, this can loose you a LOT of points. Practice tagging so you don't f*** up, and before you start tagging check for enemies. This is especially crucial on the last Kogane-cho level, the snipers hang about where you need to be, just scare them off. If you nearly make the target, reset the game and try again (it's quicker than going through the whole game!). If you do this next time you will probably do it quicker, hopefully gaining you those few extra points you needed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- *NB: Most of these are just small tips as I feel I have covered the levels with enough info in my walkthrough. I have however put a lot of detail into 'Fight or Flight' as I have been asked about how to get JET on this level, and I have seen many posts in message boards for it. If you still have trouble getting JET on any level and feel that my guide is inadequate (rather than you being s**t) than e-mail me and I will add more detail if I can. ------------------------------ Getting JET on specific levels ------------------------------ Before you use these tips remember they should only be used if you can't get JET on a level after trying for absolutely ages. Using these tips takes away some of the fun and challenge from the game, so only use them if you have too. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.01 Shibuya GG - A fairly easy level to complete with JET, just follow the general guide, do it quickly and make sure you do a few tricks along the way. Character to use - any ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.02 Love Attack - Just follow the guide but use a high-level graffiti character. Characters to use - Yo-Yo, Gum, Piranha, Goji ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.03 Love Trap - As with all boss levels, just complete it as fast as possible and you should get JET. Characters to use - preferably Slate or Noise Tank (they hold more cans) but anyone is good. Finish in less than 300 seconds to be safe. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.04 Benten Boogie - Just stick to the guide and make sure that when you have finished all the tags on the ground that you don't keep falling down, otherwise the SWAT team will get you. A fairly difficult level to get JET on due to its fairly high score boundary. Just don't mess up on any of the graffiti and you should be fine. This level should take you no more than 350 seconds to complete. Characters to use - Yo-Yo, Gum, Piranha, Goji ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.05 Graffiti High - A very simple level as long as you don't mess up to much in the first area, i.e. not landing on the cable to reach the high up tags. Just follow the general guide for this level, and make sure you do this level real quick to get a JET rating. This level should take you no more than 250 seconds to complete. Characters to use - Yo-Yo, Gum, Piranha, Goji ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.06 Noise Reduction - As with all boss levels, just complete it as fast as possible and you should get JET. Character to use - Preferably Slate (he holds more cans) but anyone is good. Finish in less than 300 seconds to be safe. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.07 The Monster of Kogane - One of the easiest levels in the game if you don't f**k up. Just use the guide and finish it quickly. This level should take about 150 seconds to finish. Characters to use - Yo-Yo, Gum, Piranha, Goji ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.08 No.540 - Fairly tricky if you don't deal with the helicopters, but keep away from them or kill them and it's easy to complete but must be done fast to get JET. Characters to use - Yo-Yo, Gum, Piranha, Goji Do this level in about 300 seconds to get that JET rating. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.09 Kogane Circus - As with all boss levels, just complete it as fast as possible and you should get JET. Character to use - preferably Slate or Noise Tank (they hold more cans) but anyone is good. Finish in less than 300 seconds to be safe. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.10 Bantam Street - There is one key points to this level: avoiding Assasin number 5, as he slows you down and injures you quite a bit. Characters to use - Yo-Yo, Gum, Piranha Complete this in 500 seconds with out p**sing it up and you should get JET. *NB You obviously can't use these characters the first time you play through the game so I recommend you do your best with Combo and Cube and use these characters when you play through the second time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.11 Grind Square - Unless you want to spend ages doing millions of tricks (which is a viable option) you need to complete this level very quickly. Seeing as you start with 999 seconds you get a lot of time bonus if you finish quickly. Otherwise just keep to the guide and don't fall off too many times (not only does it damage you but it wastes time). Characters to use - Yo-Yo, Gum, Piranha Complete in 400 seconds to hopefully get your 50'000 points. *NB You obviously can't use these characters the first time you play through the game so I recommend you do your best with Combo and Cube and use these characters when you play through the second time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.12 Explosion - Make sure you get all the xtra large green tags as they give you a lot of extra points and don't get blown up! Just follow the walkthrough and you should be able to get enough points. Characters to use - Yo-Yo, Gum, Piranha. Goji *TIP In these final stages it is crucial that you get as many green arrows as you can, they all count for points, so don't ignore them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.13 Benten Burning - Just follow the guide and you should quite easily get JET on this level, if you avoid the Golems and flame-throwers you should be fine. Characters to use - Yo-Yo, Gum, Piranha ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.14 Fight or Flight - This is for all you peeps who have JET on ever level bar this one. You have to be good, very good to get JET on this level, and if you can't get JET on every other level easily I suggest you just try to complete 'Fight or Flight' and put up with a Turbo or worse. I have only just started playing JGR again recently (after my save file was deleted by a corrupted memory card) and it took me almost 2 hours to perfect this method, it works if you can't do it go practice some more! Character to use - Goji This may seem like a strange choice but I do have a reason, 3 infact. Reason 1 - Goji has the best graffiti, therefore 5000 points per xtra large tag Reason 2 - He can hold 25 spray cans, an absolute bonus over all others with the same level of graffiti. Reason 3 - He has high health (I know it runs down quickly but you get more points if you complete the level). Anyway if you are good enough you should take next to no damage. If you don't have Goji try Piranha, she is probably second best for this task. Right then now onto the task ahead. *Tip - if you see a sniper jump on him to make him run away. *Tip - If you mess up an xtra large tag, restart the level otherwise you probably wont get enough points. Further from this point never start tagging if you have people chasing you. *Tip - the hardest part that I found when using this method was that I kept running out of time, so just make sure you never waste time. You start in the hilly residential area at the top of the hill, skate down along the roof tops and get the first two small red tags you see, they are guarded by a sniper so watch out. Now carry on down the slope and get the two other small red tags and any green ones that you go past. DO NOT get the large red tag on the rhino statue! Instead head back up the slope (along the path) and enter the sewer (it is through a door on the left as you go up the hill). As you come into the sewer there will be a sniper standing right infront of you make him run away, and make sure you have at least 14 cans, try to stay to this side of the sewer (you are probably being followed by henchmen at the moment). Once you have 14 cans jump into the water! This brings you out on the other side of the sewer, go up the stairs without disturbing the golden rhino and tag the 2 xtra large red tags. Now head up to the residential area (the one from 'The Monster of Kogane'). The path to there is on the same sides as the 2 tags you just got in the top right hand corner of the map. Once you come out of the sewer turn right then right again up the stairs. Turn around and do a wall ride across the gap (like in Garam's first test). Now jump on the car infront of you and jump onto the roof tops, take out the sniper and get the large red tag on one of the rooftops (make sure you don't take any small ones by mistake). After this you will hear a warning about the Assassin who's on his way (I forget his number), at this point in the game there are no enemies (apart from a few in the dump) until you tag another red arrow. This is the time to go around the whole level and tag all the green arrows you can find. Seeing as you are here, head to the highest part of this area and get all the green arrows especially the xtra large one on a wall near the river (it's in the same place as the one in 'The Monster of Kogane'). Now drop down into the sewer (the quickest way is through the man-hole near the bridge). Once in the sewer get a few green arrows but don't waste too much time, head over to the bottom left hand corner of the map and go up the path to the dump. You come out into the warehouse get the 6 green tags then come out into the pit area and get the large green tag there. Jump 'straight outta tha pit' via the cars and with at least 14 cans of paint jump onto the roof of the warehouse and get the 2 xtra large green tags. Now head to the top of the dump and get any green arrows you pass on the way. Go through the path at the top of the dump and you are back where you started. Now is the time to finish off the rest of the red tags. Skate down to the bottom of the hill and get the large tag on the Golden Rhino statue. Oh s**t here come the jet pack b******s with machine guns, time to run! Jump through the wall at the bottom of the hill and you land in a building JUMP (otherwise you will fall in the water) through the door. Get onto the roof tops to tag 4 small red arrows, and 1 large red arrow. Now jump off onto the same level as the houses are on and get tag another Golden Rhino statue. Now you need to get onto the water tower, you should know how to do this but if not: Get onto the highest part of this area near the stairs and man-hole cover, turn to face the tower (the big circle thing on the map) run, jump and grind on the fence, now jump off onto the tower, and voila. Get the small red tag and fill up on paint and health if you need to. Jump back onto mainland and go into the sewer again. There are 5 small red tags in here, 2 on each side on the half-pipes and one under the trap door on the top side of the map (it's another Golden Rhino). Now head back up to the dump and get the last of the red tags. There is a large one in the pit, if you are quick enough you wont get hit. Now get out of the pit and head to the top of the dump and get the large one there, (be quick so you wont get shot at). Then head back to the roof of the warehouse and get the last 2 small red tags, both Golden Rhinos. After you have tagged them you should have a JET rating for this level. When I did it I think I had about 200 seconds left, most of my health, and about 20 cans and a score of at least 50'000. My final score was 71'380. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.15 Behind the Mask - As with all boss levels, just complete it as fast as possible and you should get JET. Character to use - Preferably Slate (he holds more cans) but anyone is good. Finish in less than 300 seconds to be safe. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- 11. JET Graffiti ---------------- JET Graffiti is very similar to the Golden Rhino versions of all the levels, with one major difference: no enemies! Simply skate around and get all the red tags to complete the level. Also get the green tags to get some more points. Time allowed: 999 seconds Points required for JET Shibuya 85,000 * Benten 75,000 * Kogane 85,000 * Bantam Street 70,000 Grind Square 60,000 *I reckon these score are lower but its near to (and lower than) the score got for the level. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------- 12. JET Technique ----------------- JET Technique is basically a "free skate" but you still get a rating when time is up. This mode is very useful for getting those tags that you don't have time to get to whilst doing the levels. However, if you are trying to get a high score you are going to have to find some 'infinite grinds' there are many in each city, just use your imagination! If you can't find one on a specific level there are many faqs which deal with 'infinite grinds' specifically. Time allowed: 600 seconds Points required for JET Shibuya 90,000* Benten 50,000 Kogane 55,000 Bantam Street 65,000* Grind Square 35,000 *I reckon these score are lower but its near to (and lower than) the score got for the level. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- 13. JET Crush ------------- This is a race against another member of your team. Beat them to the tag and you win, but you have to be really quick to get a JET rating. Time allowed 200 seconds Time required for JET Racing against Shibuya 88 seconds Beat Benten 92 seconds Tab Kogane 115 seconds Gum Bantam Street 65 seconds Combo Grind Square 62 seconds Cube These times are approx! It is really hard to tell exactly what the time you need is. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- 14. Then after you have completed Chapter 2, one of the Noise Tanks will challenge you. Noise Tank's Challenges ----------------------- These challenges are fairly challenging (no s**t). Challenge 1 - Jump off the air-walk and land on the rail until you reach the wall. This is where it gets difficult! You have to jump onto the wall, do a wall ride, and then jump off backwards and land on the other rail (phew!). Then just simply jump off the rail onto the other air-walk. Challenge 2 - Jump onto the telephone line on the left, and when you reach the wall jump onto it, wall ride it, and land on the cable again. Then jump off onto the drain-pipe, and then onto the neon sign stopping on the roof. Challenge 3 - This can be a very difficult task to do. First dash forward and land on the rail, then jump a few times to gather speed (you don't need to jump from side to side like the noise tank). when you are at the bottom of the stair rail jump onto the blue fence then onto the barrier. When you reach the end of this barrier jump off to the left and land on the central reservation in the road, and then jump off to the left again and land on the stair-rail. Grind up the stairs jump the gap and grind down the stairs opposite. Next jump onto another blue fence and then off onto yet another stair-rail, when you are at the top of the stairs jump onto the rail on the left and stop where the noise tank does. After all that you can now play as Pots! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------- 15.
